Yesterday, we reported that the supermodel Gisele Bündchen had broken her silence about her divorce from the NFL star Tom Brady, which was finalized in October of last year. Early this morning, Tom took to social media to share a cryptic message about “false friends” that could be seen as a response to Gisele’s comments.

Tom’s Post About ‘False Friends’

Entertainment Tonight reported that Tom took to his Instagram Story early on Thursday to share a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson, which reads:

“What is success? To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden path or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!”

Gisele Speaks Out On Divorce

This came after Gisele denied the rumors that her divorce stemmed from Tom’s decision to un-retire and play another season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year, calling these claims “the craziest thing I’ve ever heard.”

“Listen, I have always cheered for him, and I would continue forever,” Gisele told Vanity Fair. “If there’s one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it’s him, believe me. I want him to achieve and to conquer. I want all his dreams to come true. That’s what I want, really, from the bottom of my heart.”

Gisele went on to allege that she and Tom simply grew apart.

“Sometimes you grow together; sometimes you grow apart,” she added. “When I was 26 years old and he was 29 years old, we met, we wanted a family, we wanted things together. As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make.”

“That doesn’t mean you don’t love the person. It just means that in order for you to be authentic and truly live the life that you want to live, you have to have somebody who can meet you in the middle, right? It’s a dance. It’s a balance,” she continued. “When you love someone, you don’t put them in a jail and say, ‘You have to live this life.’ You set them free to be who they are, and if you want to fly the same direction, then that’s amazing.”

Divorce ‘Was Not Tom’s Idea’

Sources have previously claimed that Tom did not want this divorce to happen.

“This was not Tom’s idea,” an insider told People Magazine of the divorce right after news of it broke. “This was never Tom’s idea.”

The source went on to say that Tom “wanted to do whatever he needed to do to fix things” with Gisele because he “didn’t want the divorce and he didn’t want the marriage to end.”

Tom was “willing to go to therapy, marriage counseling — whatever it took to make things work,” according to the source, who added that the NFL star “didn’t want the kids to have divorced parents; he wanted to work this out.”

While Tom “was trying to make things work, and to make things right” during the period “near the end” of the marriage, Gisele felt that “it was a little bit too little, too late.”

Divorce is never an easy thing, so it would not be surprising if Gisele and Tom are both continuing to struggle with it just a few months later. All we can do is hope and pray that the two of them are able to find happiness and love again in the future.
