Tom Brady Admits He’s Facing ‘Emotional Challenges’ After Divorce From Gisele Bündchen

The legendary Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and the supermodel Gisele Bündchen shocked everyone when they quickly finalized their divorce back in October, right in the middle of his NFL season. Brady, 45, is now admitting that he’s faced “emotional challenges” in the wake of this divorce.

Brady Discusses Emotional Challenges

In Monday’s episode of his “Let’s Go!” podcast, Brady opened up about how he stays focused on the football field amidst distractions in his personal life. 

“I think there’s so many ways for me that it just keeps great perspective for me in my life,” the 45-year-old Brady said. “Why have I done it for as long as I have? You know, physically, I’ve explained that and I’ve tried to take care of myself.”

“You know, mentally…there’s such a drive mentally to always come up with the next great play, or the next great concept, or the next great scream,” he continued. “And then emotionally, that’s where I think as you get older the challenges really come in, you know — because we can get distracted by other parts of life. And not distracted in a bad way but there’s priorities that take over.”

In the end, it appears to be Brady’s love for football that allows him to leave his emotional issues at home. 

“So I’ve tried my best over the years to maintain what’s important to me,” he explained. “And been very fortunate to play a sport that I love. And, as I said, why do I play? Because the competition is great. Obviously it’s a great thrill and joy to go out there and play, but you’re just, you’re a part of something that’s way bigger than yourself and there’s something to be said for that.”

Brady Leads Buccaneers To Comeback Victory

This podcast came hours before Brady led the Buccaneers to an comeback victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, according to The New York Post. After being down 13 points going into the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers managed to come back and win the game 17-16, largely due to Brady’s leadership in an epic closing sequence. 

Afterwards, Brady dedicated the victory to his 10 year-old daughter Vivian, who is one of the two children he shares with Bündchen. 

“It’s my daughter’s birthday, Vivi Lake. Daddy loves you, and hopefully, that’s for her,” Brady said in his post-game interview, according to Yahoo News. He added that Vivian was “little worried when I said we’re playing the Saints.”

“She said, ‘oh no, daddy,'” he continued with a laugh.

Brady And Bündchen’s Divorce

Brady and Bündchen were married since 2009, and they seemed to be a happy couple for much of the 13 years that they were together. When Brady un-retired earlier this year and decided to play another season with the Buccaneers, however, rumors swirled that Bündchen was furious over his decision, and it seems to have all gone downhill for them from there. 

Sources have claimed that Brady has struggled with the divorce.

“This was not Tom’s idea,” an insider told People Magazine of the divorce last month. “This was never Tom’s idea.”

The source went on to say that Brady “wanted to do whatever he needed to do to fix things” with Bündchen because he “didn’t want the divorce and he didn’t want the marriage to end.”

It’s never fun to see a couple split up, particularly when they share young children together. We hope that Brady can continue to overcome the emotional challenges from this split, and that he and Bündchen are able to co-parent well together moving forward.
