While President Donald Trump was being impeached for a second time, he was focusing on something else. He reportedly was awarding the National Medal of the Arts to country music superstars Toby Keith and Ricky Skaggs.

Trump still has work to do in his final days as President and he wanted to ensure that these two musical legends were given appropriate recognition. The timing of these awards have angered Democrats who want Trump out of office sooner than scheduled.

Keith is well known for his patriotic songs and desire to always put America first. A strong supporter of our military, he gives back in a big way to veterans in need. Keith is a proud American and he finally got White House recognition for it at a very interesting time.

Toby Keith At Trump’s Inauguration

Toby Keith performed at Trump’s Inauguration so it’s fitting that one of Trump’s final official acts at the White House is to give this great award to the singer.

In January 2017, entertainers were being threatened with boycotts if they performed at the Trump event. It has always been a great honor to perform for the Inauguration, but Democratic activists targeted musicians to scare them off.

Except nothing could scare Toby Keith away from performing at the White House.

“Going to a president’s inauguration, no matter who it is, that’s what you’re supposed to do,” he said. “It’s an honor to make history and get to do that.”

Bluegrass Legend Ricky Skaggs Receives Medal From President Trump

Bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs also got the huge honor of being awarded the National Medal of the Arts.

He has been credited with helping keep Bluegrass alive. Skaggs has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall of Fame.

Skaggs was given his first mandolin at age 5 and he’s been making music ever since.

Along with his band Kentucky Thunder, Ricky has been a perennial winner of Grammy Awards and International Bluegrass Music Association for best bluegrass album.

You can watch Ricky Skaggs perform “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” with Randy and Earl Scruggs in the video below.
