The Witcher Season 4 Recasting Netflix

One of the biggest RPGs in the gaming community got its TV show adaptation back in 2019, and it was a big hit. And while fans raved over Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Geralt of Rivia, his time on the show quickly came to an end during The Witcher season 4. When news came out that Liam Hemsworth was taking his place, there was disappointment to say the least.

Unfortunately, Geralt wasn’t the only major role that had a recast for The Witcher season 4. This time, Vesemir, originally played by Kim Bodnia, is now being played by Lord of the Rings star Peter Mullan. The monster hunter who acts as a father figure to Geralt was almost a perfect fit for the iconic character you see in the game.

The reason Kim Bodnia is being replaced is that the actor joined the cast of Brad Pitt’s Apple TV+ movie F1, which would lead to scheduling issues. Ultimately, with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Bodnia was unable to join either opportunity.

But unlike Liam Hemsworth’s insertion into the TV adaptation, fans are excited to see Peter Mullan take up this role. With decades of film and TV performances under his belt, especially with his role in The Lord of the Rings, LOTR: The Rings of Power, Outlander, and Children of Men, he is a perfect addition to the team.

For those who are still frustrated with the Geralt recasting, Hemsworth has also finally broken his silence about it. “I’m a massive fan of Henry’s, and I’m a fan of what he did in the show.” Even so, he spoke on how it was difficult to step into his shoes, as he was up against a whole fandom.

While Cavill never made an official statement on why he left, some believe that, with Cavill being so dedicated to the storyline, perhaps Netflix had other plans that would not follow the true story closely.

“There was quite a bit of noise and I had to put that aside. IT started to become a distraction. I dealt with that sort of thing in the past a lot and, you know, at the end of the day, I love making movies and I love telling stories and acting. I just don’t want any of that to affect my way of telling the story that I’m trying to tell. I jumped off social media and the internet most of last year,” Hemsworth said.

While the fans are disappointed about the switch, it’s good to see that the next Geralt is another big fan of the franchise, and hopefully, that will make The Witcher season 4 just as amazing as the last three seasons. And with the addition of fantasy legend Peter Mullan as Vesemir, fans are truly in for a great season full of adventure.

You can watch The Witcher season 4 on Netflix, and it premieres on October 30.
