Back in August, we reported that Kelly Monaco was shockingly fired from General Hospital after playing Samantha (Sam) McCall on the iconic soap opera for 21 years. On Wednesday’s episode of the iconic soap opera, Sam tragically passed away.
But fans, it’s not over yet!
Now, it’s been revealed that Monaco, 48, will still be appearing on at least one more General Hospital this week.
Monaco Isn’t Done On General Hospital
On Tuesday’s episode, Sam came out of a surgery successfully and got engaged to Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). She later began to crash, however, and doctor’s were not able to revive her in the next episode.
Despite this, People Magazine has confirmed that Monaco’s last appearance on General Hospital will still be later this week.
Monaco had played Sam in more than 2,000 episodes since she made her debut back in 2003. That’s why fans were stunned over the summer when it was announced that Monaco had been fired, and that Sam would be killed off.
Monaco Addresses Her Firing
Monaco remained quiet about her firing for quite some time. Earlier this month, she broke her silence about it in an Instagram comment that has since been deleted. She wrote it in response to a fan who commented, “What do you got concrete in your head she wasn’t fired she didn’t take the pay cut so she had to leave.”
“‘No primary role’.. do your homework,” Monaco replied. “When Billy Miller was fired, Sam’s storyline stopped. Stripping Sam of every characteristic she had.”
“Something I worked for decades to build,” she continued. “Slowly dismantling her, into a character that I did not recognize, let alone the audience. Call it what you will… retaliation at it [sic] finest. I will give a proper statement. The truth will set you free.”

Monaco’s Mother Speaks Out
Last month, Monaco’s mother Carmina took to her own Instagram account to address her daughter’s firing.
“I want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly’s incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty, and support you’ve shown her throughout her time on General Hospital,” Carmina wrote. “On this final day, just four days shy of the anniversary of her first episode on October 1, 2003, Kelly will close the door of her dressing room for the last time.”
“This moment is a difficult one, but knowing that she has had such an incredible, devoted fan base has given her strength,” she added. “You’ve stood by her through every twist and turn, celebrating her achievements and providing comfort in the hard times. Your love and dedication have meant more than words can express, not only to Kelly but to all of us who care so deeply for her.”
Carmina concluded by thanking Monaco’s loyal fans.
“Thank you for being there, for believing in her, and for reminding her of the impact she’s made,” she wrote. “We will always be grateful for you standing with her through it all.”
Monaco’s History
Monaco has been nominated for one Daytime Emmy for playing Sam, earning this distinction back in 2006. She is also known for winning the very first season of Dancing With The Stars in 2005. Monaco later returned to the ABC reality dance competition for the “All-Star” season in 2012. She and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, ended up coming in third place.
