Editor’s Note: This story was written before the Queen’s death was announced. Queen Elizabeth II has since passed away, dying peacefully at her Balmoral home at the age of 96.

She was the longest reigning monarch in British history. Her son, Prince Charles, is now the King and his wife Camilla is Queen Consort.

The British Royal Family has rushed to the bedside of Queen Elizabeth today after doctors said that they were “concerned” over her health.

Doctors ‘Concerned’ Over Queen’s Health

Daily Mail reported that doctors expressed concerns over the Queen’s health after a medical check-up early on Thursday, just hours after reportedly being advised not to attend a Privy Council meeting on Wednesday night and take some time to rest instead.

“Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement. “The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”

The palace went on to say that the 96 year-old monarch’s “immediate” family was informed, with the heir to the throne Prince Charles rushing to her bedside with his wife Camilla from their Scottish home Birkhall, around 10 miles from Balmoral.

Prince William immediately flew up from Windsor to be with the Queen, but his wife Kate Middleton remains at Adelaide Cottage because their three children have their first full day of school today. Princess Anne is already at Balmoral after an engagement in Scotland this week, while her brothers Prince Andrew and Prince Edward are currently on their way.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, who were on a pseudo royal tour of Europe, have reportedly changed their plans so that they can be with the Queen as well.

Royal Experts And Others Weigh In

Royal experts are extremely worried about the situation, not only because the royals have rushed to the Queen’s bedside, but also because public statements about her health are exceedingly rare.

“It leads us to believe the situation is much more serious than we’ve been told,” said royal biographer Nigel Cawthorne.

Liz Truss, the new prime minister of the U.K., was handed a note about the Queen’s health in the Commons minutes before the palace’s statement was made public. She then said that “the whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime.”

“My thoughts – and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom – are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time,” she added.

The Archbishop of Canterbury released a statement saying that the “prayers of the nation” are with the Queen.

“My prayers, and the prayers of people across the (Church of England) and the nation, are with Her Majesty The Queen today,” he added. “May God’s presence strengthen and comfort Her Majesty, her family, and those who are caring for her at Balmoral.”

Queen’s Medical Issues

The news comes after the Queen, who is the longest-serving British monarch in history, has reportedly suffered various health problems as of late. Because of these issues, she was told not to travel from Balmoral to London earlier this week to accept the resignation of her outgoing Prime Minister and appoint Miss Truss. This marked the first time in her 70 years on the throne that she appointed a Prime Minister at Balmoral.

The Queen looked frail in photos that were released on Tuesday, and she had noticeable bruising on her hands. These photos also marked the first time Her Majesty had been seen in public in the last 47 days.

We can only hope that the Queen is able to pull through these medical issues, just as she has with many other challenges in her life. Please join us in saying a prayer for her today.
