Robin Leach, who showed us how the mega-wealthy live on “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” has passed away following a stroke. The 76-year-old passed away in the early hours of Friday in Cabo San Lucas.
Fellow columnist John Katsilometes confirmed the sad news on Twitter.
Sad to report the death of famed celeb reporter, friend and colleague #RobinLeach @ 1:50 a.m. in #LasVegas. He would have been 77 Wednesday. He suffered a second stroke Monday. He in hospice care. He'd been hospitalized since Nov. 21, after suffering a stroke in Cabo San Lucas.

Leach’s family also shared news of his passing in a statement. “Despite the past 10 months, what a beautiful life he had. Our Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and friend Robin Leach passed away peacefully last night at 1:50 a.m. Everyone’s support and love over the past, almost one year, has been incredible and we are so grateful. Memorial arrangements to follow. With love, Steven, Gregg and Rick Leach,” the statement read.
Robin Leach became a household name when “The Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” hit the small screen in 1984. Americans tuned in in large numbers as he took us inside the amazing homes of Hollywood stars and other very rich people.

The show gave people a front row seat into the lavish lives of the most famous among us. It gave us an opportunity to see how they lived and perhaps, was a source of encouragement to people who were attempting to follow their own dreams. Their houses were unlike anything we could ever imagine! It was a completely different show from what was on television at the time and a longstanding success, airing until 1995.
Leach was a talented journalist who started his career on a successful note. At the tender age of 18, he became the editor of London’s Daily Mail. He moved to New York in 1963 to further his journalistic career. He expected to write his entire life, but things took a detour when he helped launch “Entertainment Tonight.”
He and a producer came up with the idea of “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” in a brainstorming session. Nobody could have predicted the show’s success.
Leach always ended his show by saying, “I’m Robin Leach with those champagne wishes and caviar dreams.”
