Monty Hall, the beloved Classic TV game show host of Let’s Make A Deal passed away on September 30th at the ripe age of 96. Hall had a cardiac arrest and had battled with heart disease for the last seven years of his life.
Fans were shocked to hear this news. According to his death certificate, Monty Hall had coronary artery disease that began in his 20s. That’s not something you typically associate with someone so young. Given the time he was born, it is remarkable that he was able to lead such a productive and long life with this condition. 70 years ago, medical science wasn’t what it is today.
Another thing Let’s Make A Deal fans likely didn’t know about the star is that he was incredibly philanthropic. Using his fame, he helped raise over a billion dollars for charitable causes, according to his daughter Sharon.
As the star of Let’s Make A Deal from 1963 until 1986, Hall was a household name for many years. The show has been reprised with Wayne Brady as the host, but many of us will always think of Monty Hall when we hear the name of it. Canadian born Hall, who is survived by three children and five grandchildren, began in radio before hitting the small screen on Let’s Make A Deal.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Monty Hall, a television legend who hosted a show and created a format that has entertained audiences for more than 50 years,” CBS executive Angelica McDaniel said regarding his passing. “Monty’s infectious enthusiasm, humor, and warmth were a winning combination that was evident to everyone he encountered, whether returning to make appearances on the current version of Let’s Make A Deal, or gracing us with his presence at a photo shoot celebrating CBS Daytime earlier this year. On screen, Monty made the ‘Big Deals,’ but in the game of life, he himself was one. Our hearts go out to his children, his entire family, and friends.”
