Pop star Miley Cyrus had an experience this week that can only be described as what nightmares are made of when her plane was struck by lightning while she was flying to Asunción, Paraguay to headline a festival.
Miley Cyrus On Plane Struck By Lightning
To my fans and everyone worried after hearing about my flight to Asunción. Our plane was caught in a major unexpected storm and struck by lighting. My crew , band , friends and family who were all traveling with me are safe after an emergency landing. pic.twitter.com/NhKrospppN

Cyrus had been set to perform as the headline act at the Asuncionico Festival on Wednesday in Asunción, the capital city of Paraguay.
Entertainment Tonight reported that the festival ended up canceling all of the performances for the day following Cyrus’ announcement, including scheduled acts by American performers Doja Cat and Machine Gun Kelly.
“After evaluating all possible ways to carry out day 2, we are sad to have to announce that the festival is finally cancelled,” the organizers wrote, according to Fox5. They went on to say that severe weather conditions have caused “insurmountable obstacles to logistics.”

Machine Gun Kelly Still Performs
Undeterred, American rap sensation Machine Gun Kelly took to the streets to perform for his fans on Tuesday night.
“The concert grounds flooded in Paraguay tonight so they cancelled our set…but i just ordered a huge speaker so meet me out front of my hotel right now, you’re getting a show.”
“And that’s how we turn bad news into amazing news ???,” he went on to add.

The 31-year-old “Bad Things” artist has been in a relationship with “Transformers” actress Megan Fox since 2020 following her split with “90210” favorite Brian Austin Green. The two were spotted dancing together while in Paraguay.

Fans of Miley Cyrus Celebrate Her Safety
NBC News reported that while it’s been decades since a lightning strike caused a commercial airplane to crash, the NOAA said that smaller and private planes, which “are not required to be designed for protection from lightning,” have been known to crash in recent years after being struck by lightning.
While it is not immediately clear what kind of aircraft Cyrus and her team were on, she is undoubtedly counting herself lucky to be alive right now.
Cyrus’ fans have been taking to social media to celebrate that she is safe:
We are so happy that you, your family and team are okay. I can’t imagine how scary was going through a flight like this. The same thing happened at Glastonbury Festival ‘19 unfortunately but we are so GRATEFUL that God are protecting you and your love ones. We love you so much ♥️

Miley Cyrus Was ‘Scared’ To Perform Again Post-COVID
Last month, Cyrus admitted that she was “scared” to take the stage again after a year of COVID-19 followed by limited touring for her in 2021.
“I know that all of us are going through that same experience, just trying to integrate back into a reality that was moving so fast, so naturally,” she told her fans, according to Rolling Stone. “And now, something that should just be like breathing is suddenly difficult and anxiety-inducing and scary.”
“I just want you to know, that even though I’m up here with all of you, I’m just as scared as everybody else about where the world is going [and] what the future holds,” she added. “But the good news is, we’re not alone. We’re all in this together.”
Miley Cyrus must fly often so hopefully she’ll bounce back quickly from her terrifying ordeal high up in the sky.
