Disgraced “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett filed a counter lawsuit against the City of Chicago on Tuesday claiming that he was the victim of a malicious prosecution that caused humiliation and extreme distress.

Jussie Smollett Sues Chicago

Fox News reported that Smollett filed a counterclaim in an attempt to be compensated for what he sees as his own personal “pain and suffering”.

Smollett’s counterclaim accuses the City of Chicago of “maliciously” prosecuting Smollett “in bad faith,” and adding that the City filed criminal charges against him “without probable cause”, according to ABC News.

The counterclaim is in response to a lawsuit that Chicago filed against Smollett back in April seeking $130,000 in civil penalties, damages, attorney’s fees and costs arising from the actor’s “false statements.”

Smollett’s new counterclaim argues that Chicago “is not entitled to recover further costs for services” because Smollett already paid $10,000. Smollet asserts that the $10,000 he was ordered to pay after his criminal case was closed should block Chicago from seeking reimbursement via their civil suit related to the police investigation that was opened as a result of his infamous January 2019 hoax.

Smollett’s attorneys request that Smollett be given a jury trial and awarded compensatory and punitive damages in his counterclaim. The amount of which would be determined at trial.

Jussie Smollett Reports Hate Crime to Chicago PD

This whole situation started in January, when Smollett, who is openly gay, called police claiming that he had been the victim of a racial and homophobic hate crime. He alleged that he had been jumped by two men. Saying the men assaulted him while making racist and homophobic comments. All before also saying “this is MAGA country.”

Police concluded one month later that Smollett had staged the attack, hiring Nigerian brothers Abel and Ola Osundairo to assault him in the hopes that being the victim of such an attack would secure him a pay raise on “Empire.”

Smollett was then slapped with numerous charges related to filing a fake police report. But then, just weeks later, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx shocked the nation by inexplicably dropping all charges against him.

Prosector Kim Foxx’s Admission

‘Yahoo News reported that in a new reelection video released yesterday, Foxx admits that she mishandled the Smollett case.

“The truth is, I didn’t handle it well,” Foxx said in the video. “I own that.”

“I’m making changes in my office to make sure we do better,” she added. “That’s what reform is about.”

Foxx then goes on to say that “those attacks aren’t just about one case, they’re about stopping progress in Cook County . . . we’re on the right path to reforming criminal justice in Cook County, and making the system work for everyone.”

After Foxx dropped the charges against Smollett, an anonymous attorney in her office released a statement slamming the decision.

“This case was handled markedly different from any other case at 26th Street,” the unnamed attorney said. “No one knows why, and more importantly, no one can explain why our boss, the head prosecutor of all of Cook County, has decided to so demean and debase both our hard work, and our already tenuous relationship with the Chicago Police Department.”

Smollett Continues To Claim He’s Innocent

Foxx’s decision to drop the charges against Jussie Smollett enraged Chicago police officers. Those officers felt like Smollett had personally wasted their time and resources with his alleged false claim. As for Smollett himself, he continues to profess his innocence. Even after he agreed to let the city keep his $10,000 bail.

When Smollett allegedly staged this hate crime, he tried to play off the political and racial divisions in this country for his own personal gain.

He also further tried to vilify supporters of Donald Trump. While knowing full well that the media will run with any story that makes Trump supporters look bad. And without doing their homework first to make sure the story checks out.

If you ask me, Smollett deserves to be in prison for what he did. And I can only hope that he ends up there someday.
