Dolly Parton is giving her fans the Christmas present of a lifetime! Fans of the country music legend are ecstatic following the announcement of her first Christmas album release in 30 years. She plans to call it “A Holly Dolly Christmas.”

Dolly Parton’s Christmas Album

The album is set to include a mix of original music as well as covers of famous holiday classics.

“A Holly Dolly Christmas”, which is due to be released on October 2, will also feature appearances by other famous artists like Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley Cyrus, Willie Nelson, Michael Bublé, Jimmy Fallon, and Parton’s brother Randy.

Parton told Billboard that she had been wanting to do another Christmas album for quite some time.

Her other Christmas albums are “Home for Christmas” released in 1990 and “Once Upon a Christmas” with the late Kenny Rogers released in 1984. She then revealed how she came up with the name of the album.

“I thought, ‘I think I’ll call it A Holly Dolly Christmas because I love the song ‘A Holly Jolly Christmas’ with Burl Ives,” she explained. “He used to be on all of my Christmas specials all through the years. I think of him as Mr. Christmas. I thought, ‘Why don’t do I call it something cute and clever, like that or Deck the Halls with Boughs of Dolly, something corny like that.’”

Dolly Parton Will Cover Mariah Carey Classic

One of the songs Parton decided to cover is the modern holiday classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” originally sung by Mariah Carey.

“I thought, ‘What other songs are really hot?’ And I thought, ‘All I Want for Christmas is You.’ Jimmy Fallon, a couple of years ago, I was on his show around Christmas and he asked me to sing that and I didn’t know it and I felt so bad,” Parton explained.

“So I went and learned it and I was just going to put it on my album and then I went, ‘I’ll ask Jimmy Fallon to sing it with me!’ And he said, yes. So I’m really excited about that.”

Challenges To Record Album Amidst COVID-19

Most of the famous artists that she sings duets with for the album had to record their parts separately because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We were working in our little circle with our masks and with our gloves and we had our engineer and we just had the very few people that we had to have when we were in there when I was singing,” Parton said. “They had done some of the tracks before the pandemic, but then we went in and started doing our vocals.”
