Dolly Parton’s New ‘There Was Jesus’ Video With Christian Artist Zach Williams Is Just What We Need Right Now

Dolly Parton has never shied away from her Christian beliefs. Her faith is a central part of who she is. Now, Dolly is sharing it again in a beautiful new song and video with Christian rock artist Zach Williams. “There Was Jesus” has an important message that we all need right now. 

Dolly Parton and Zach Williams Duet

The pair appeared on the Country Music Association Awards last October to sing the song. This goosebump inducing song earned great praise and now there is an equally beautiful video to accompany it.  

It was a long shot for Zach Williams to get Dolly to sing this with him. The idea started out as a daydream but eventually became a reality.

Williams discussed how this duet came to be with Patheos: 

We recorded that song and finished the demo, and I remember turning my producer, like, “Dude, it’d be really cool if we could get Dolly Parton.” We both kind of laughed, like, “Yeah, good luck.” A month later, we were reaching out to her label and she agreed to listen to the song. She heard it loved it and wanted to be a part of it. And, you know, we showed up and tracked vocals with her and she was a pleasure to work with. So down to earth and humble. It’s been probably one of the highlights of my career so far.

Dolly Parton’s Christian Songs

Dolly previously said she wanted to focus on recording faith based songs. When she was approached, she knew she had to be involved. 

“I loved Zach’s voice, and at that time I wanted to do something more uplifting,” Parton said. “I felt like it was a Godsend, so I thought yes, this is my record and I’m going to sing with him on it! I’m really proud of how it turned out. I think people are going to get a blessing out of it. I know I have.”

“There Was Jesus”

The song is definitely is a Christian song, but it has tremendous mainstream appeal given the melody and of course the fact that Dolly Parton and Zach Williams are involved.

The video also lays another dimension to it as we all have encountered kindness of others during times of struggle. 

Dolly excitedly announced the new “There Was Jesus” video on Twitter with a short teaser.
