Comedian David Spade, 57, rips into cancel culture for ruining comedy, despite the fact that the phenomenon recently scored him a new job.
‘It’s Very Dicey’
After longtime “The Bachelor” host Chris Harrison was “cancelled” and fired for defending a contestant who once attended an antebellum-themed party, Spade was brought in by ABC as one of the guest hosts of Season 7 of “Bachelor in Paradise.” Other guest hosts include Lance Bass, rapper Lil Jon, actor Tituss Burgess, and Bachelor Nation alum Wells Adams.
Despite the fact that he benefited from cancel culture personally in this situation, Spade warned that the “woke” phenomenon is actually making it “very dicey” to be in the comedy business.
“It’s very dicey. It’s very tricky,” Spade said when he was asked about cancel culture by Variety.
“You used to have to say anything to go as far as you could, to push the envelope, to get attention, and people would be like, ‘I like this guy. He’s pushing it.’ And in comedy clubs, audiences really appreciate that,” he explained. “Now you say the one wrong move and you’re canceled. It’s a very tough world out there.”

Comedians Band Together To Fight Cancel Culture
Spade went on to say that cancel culture has actually brought comedians closer together. They’ve been left with no choice but to team up to fight the trend of entertainers losing their jobs because of jokes or comments that are deemed to be politically incorrect.
He said:
“I think all the comedians have gotten together, in a way, to say we just have to keep doing what we were doing, and the people that come to the shows will appreciate it. But you get an outsider that comes in and goes, ‘I was so offended.’
The intent is not to be mean … If the intent is to do it as a joke or a spin on something, and it is mean to people, but you’re just making fun of that, I don’t think that’s horrible. I’ve been in the business doing it for 20 years, so I hope comics are allowed to be comics. I really hope so.”

More Celebrities Need To Speak Out Against Cancel Culture
Cancel culture has become so powerful that most celebrities don’t have the guts to speak out against it anymore. They fear that they’ll end up “cancelled” themselves.
Comedians arguably have it harder than anyone in the entertainment industry. It’s hard to be funny when you are worried that something you say will be misconstrued and cost you your livelihood.
We applaud Spade for having the courage to speak out against cancel culture. In order for this nonsense to come to an end, more entertainers need to join him in doing the same.
