David Zucker, the executive producer for the upcoming Blade Runner series, confirms disappointing news. The science-fiction classic has awed audiences with its riveting story, action-packed scenes, and its otherworldly setting. And this is the latest Blade Runner 2099 release update, along with everything else we know about the upcoming story.

Blade Runner excels at making fans ponder what it truly means to be human. And in the second installment, Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villeneuve elaborates on these themes. And when word came out that Blade Runner 2099 was in the works, fans have been patiently waiting.

Unfortunately, that wait isn’t ending anytime soon. The next in the series is set fifty years after the events of the Villeneuve-directed film that starred Ryan Gosling. While the last two movies had male protagonists with Gosling and Harrison Ford, the series will follow Euphoria star Hunter Schafer, along with Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh, known for Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, to give a more dynamic story.
Zucker recently revealed that the show is currently in post-production, but a release date window is still not on the charts. He explains that “The show is much closer to the aesthetic of the first movie than the second movie.”
“It’s a lot to do with that thing quite intrinsic to the source material in the movie, which is actually what makes somebody human and what makes somebody not human. Or when does somebody cross some threshold? Can we really have a full sense of humanity without being very aware of our own dual sides? We have the capacity for great evil as well as great good,” he explains further.

Along with the Blade Runner 2099 release update, what else do we know about the show? The series will be set in the backdrop of Los Angeles 2099 and will follow Cora (Schafer), who has lived her entire life on the run, forced to adopt numerous identities. To secure a stable future for her brother, she assumes a final identity and is forced to partner with Olwen (Yeoh), a Replicant who’s confronting the end of her life.
Alongside the main cast, the show features Tom Burke, Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, Maurizio Lombardi, and Daniel Rigby.
