It was a surprising bit of news recently, and now Malakai Black speaks on his AEW release. And, several IMPACT contracts are expiring soon-let’s see which ones.
Malakai Black Speaks On Release
Now that he officially has it, Malakai Black speaks on the circumstances surrounding his AEW release.
To recap a bit, not that long ago, there were rumors of a significant AEW star asking for their release.
Speculation ran wild, and then a follow up report noted that while a release was requested, Tony Khan declined the request.
Then we got to All Out. Before things went bonkers with the media scrum and subsequent brawl, that is.
After losing their match, House of Black shared an embrace on the entrance way, with Malakai Black giving fans a sense that he was saying goodbye.
Shortly after, news came out of Malakai Black’s request of a release being honored, with some conditions.
Now, Malakai Black speaks on his release, why he asked for it now, and all the circumstances surrounding it.

There are a couple key points here.
Black acknowledges a number of issues contributing to a mental health issue on his part, which drove his need for a release.
However, Black spoke on how things he had talked to AEW about became public, and he was understandably upset.
This was not some star wanting time off for a movie shoot. Instead, this was a star who recognized he needed time away for mental health-something that should be honored and not announced by just anyone.
His issues should have remained just that-his, until he felt like sharing…if he even ever did.
Regardless, we wish Black the best on his road to recovery.
IMPACT Contracts Expiring
In some slightly less serious news, it turns out there are a number of IMPACT contracts expiring in the very near future.
That news comes courtesy of Fightful.
Per the report, some notable names are about to see their IMPACT contracts expiring soon.
Among the names?
Former WWE Superstara Mia Yim, Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis.
Also on the list is Matt Taven.
This latest batch of soon to be expired contracts comes on the heels of the Good Brothers seeing their own contracts expiring.
All are set to be expiring by the end of the year. Mia Yim’s, for example, is said to be expiring at the end of October.
With the changes to WWE recently, it would be interesting to see if any of those mentioned might try to land there.
In the case of Yim, this represents another potential chance for her to go to AEW. Her husband, Keith Lee, is already there.
However, she had a chance to do that before, and instead landed at IMPACT.
Of course, things could work out and any or all of the talent could work out deals to stay with the company moving forward.
Stay tuned for the latest.
