After months of speculation, the day has finally arrived. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced their engagement. The 36-year-old American actress will marry the 33-year-old Royal this upcoming Spring.
The couple got engaged in early November. Prince Harry secured the blessing of the Queen and Meghan’s parents. The Royal Marriages Act 1772 requires the Queen to give her permission to the marriages of the first six people in line to the throne.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have also expressed happiness with Prince Harry’s engagement to the American actress.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said of the engagement:
'We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to
know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.'— The Prince and Princess of Wales (@KensingtonRoyal) November 27, 2017
There is a question as to whether the Queen is able to attend the wedding of her youngest grandson. Since Markle is divorced, the Queen might not be in attendance. She did not witness Prince Charles marry Camilla Parker Bowles for this very reason.
Many are drawing parallels between Prince Harry’s engagement and Edward VIII’s need to abdicate the throne when he became engaged to American divorcee Wallace Simpson. But, the welcoming of Meghan into the family highlights the how much has changed in both society and Royal protocol.
The couple will follow many traditions on their wedding day.
Prince Harry must wear his military uniform the day of the ceremony. This tradition began with Prince Phillip and has since continued in Royal weddings.
There will be assigned seating to avoid confusion. The Royal Family always sits on the right side of the church, as is required by law.
It is Royal tradition that the couple has two wedding cakes. Despite tradition, this makes sense since there are so many guests to accommodate for dessert.
Royal grooms do not wear wedding rings. It is very unlikely that Prince Harry will put a ring on his own finger as well. His brother William, the Duke of Cambridge, also does not wear a wedding ring.
This wedding will be unlike any other the Royal Family has hosted. A biracial American divorcee is marrying a Prince! After the wedding, the couple will be living in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace. Markle is expected to be given the title of Duchess.
Share this if you are happy for Prince Harry!
