Many parents cheered Bryan Thornhill‘s video of his son’s punishment for bullying. Ten-year-old Hayden was expelled from riding the bus for how he was treating other kids, so Bryan made him run to school. Then he posted a video of it on Facebook to show proper parenting. Piers Morgan was not amused.
The British talk show host had the Thornhills on “Good Morning Britain” to discuss this traditional parenting approach. Morgan was not amused to say the least.
While Morgan agreed with the punishment, he felt Thornhill embarrassed the boy by posting it on social media. Morgan appeared to be completely ignorant to the fact that by having the boy on his television show, he would also be embarrassing the boy himself.
As the child sat there for the interview, Piers Morgan asked the father, “Why did you decide to humiliate your son like you did?”
Thornhill shot back saying, “The video was meant to show some people that it’s okay to parent your children. So many people are petrified to say anything negative about their kids, apart from making them sit a timeout.”
Hayden didn’t appear to take issue with the punishment, but he did seem to object to Morgan questioning his father in such a derogatory manner.
After failing to belittle the father, Morgan turned his questions to the child he claimed to be defending. “Do you think the punishment was deserved, that your dad was right?’ he asked of the 10-year-old.
Hayden replied, “I think it was what I deserved because my dad has said I need a parent, not a friend. He can be a friend when I am 18. So I think it was well deserved because I messed up so I have to pay the price. Once I had to run to school I learned my lesson.”
