How we react to tough times says a lot about our character. One Pennsylvania woman remembers tough financial times when she was being raised by a single mom. Now that Marissa Viti is grown, she’s found a way to give back and help others who are now in the situation she found herself in as a child.
She started “Thanksgiving in a Box” to help families put a traditional Thanksgiving meal on the table. This year she will be handing out 50 boxes filled with non-perishable items for Thanksgiving breakfast and dinner. Each family will get a $50 grocery store gift certificate to buy a turkey and other fresh food. Viti’s mother provided a kitchen towel for each of the 50 families.
From GMA:
“There’s the concept that there is a complete stranger that cares about you — that’s how I see it,” Viti said. “In my household, we struggled, but my mom was constantly saying she loved us, and she’d say, ‘I know were struggling in money, but we are not struggling in love.’
“I genuinely care about these families, even though I’ve never met them. I want them to know it’s OK. It might be a reminder to them that times are hard but it can still turn out positive. It can be better.”
Marissa’s Facebook post below says a lot about the type of person she is. She doesn’t carry a chip on her shoulder because they struggled financially when she was a kid. Instead she looks to help other families in that same situation. As you can see, this project was a pretty big undertaking.
Others helped by donating to Marissa’s Thanksgiving in a Box Go Fund Me. It truly is a great way to celebrate and be grateful for what you have. We can learn a lot from this woman.
