Success of Past Night at the Museum Films
The Night at the Museum movies are still very popular today and have become a beloved franchise over the years. The first film was adapted from the 1993 children’s book by Milan Trenc, where a night watchman at a natural history museum fights through chaos when the exhibits come to life after dark.
The three films (Night at the Museum, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb) were directed by 21 Laps Entertainment and starred Ben Stiller. Each of the three films was a hit at the global box office, earning ~$574 million, ~$413 million, and ~$363 million, respectively.
Other popular cast members in the series include Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Amy Adams, Hank Azaria, Dan Stevens, and Rebel Wilson.
Years later, Disney expanded the franchise with Night of the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again, a 2022 animated film produced by Levy for Disney+. It featured a voice cast of Joshua Bassett, Jamie Demetriou, Gillian Jacobs, and Zachary Levi.
