Last weekend, two incidents took place in the United States in which good guys with guns managed to take down active shooters. And these are just two of the more than 20 armed citizens who prevented mass shootings across the country since 2020.

You won’t be hearing much about these stories from the mainstream media, however, as they go against the Left’s agenda. So let’s talk about them here.

Indianapolis Shopping Mall Shooting

The first incident took place on Sunday in Indianapolis, Indiana, where a 22-year-old legally carrying man fatally shot a gunman who had opened fire at a shopping mall killing three people and injuring two more.

Greenwood Police Department Chief Jim Ison told Market Watch that the gunman entered Greenwood Park Mall with a rifle and several magazines of ammunition, and he proceeded to open fire in the food court.

Ison said that four of the people that were hit by gunfire were female and one was a male, adding that one of the injured victims was a 12-year-old girl. He identified the gunman as 20-year-old Jonathan Douglas Sapirman, and the Good Samaritan who killed him as 22 year-old Elisjsha Dicken.

‘The Real Hero Of The Day’

“The real hero of the day is the citizen that was lawfully carrying a firearm in that food court and was able to stop the shooter almost as soon as he began,” Ison said.

“He engaged the gunman from quite a distance with a handgun, was very proficient in that, very tactically sound, and, as he moved to close in on the suspect, he was also motioning for people to exit behind him,” he continued, according to The New York Times

Mayor Mark Myers also praised Dicken, saying that “this young man, Greenwood’s good Samaritan, acted within seconds, stopping the shooter and saving countless lives.”

“I don’t want to be among the mayors that has to share these statements, but, sadly, I am,” he added. “I grieve for these senseless killings, and I ache for the scars that are left behind on the victims and on our community.”

Texas ATM Shooting

The second incident of this nature occurred on Saturday night in Houston, Texas, where a suspected robber was killed when his intended victim whipped out his own weapon and shot him. The incident occurred at around 10:30 PM when the intended victim was leaving an ATM, only to find himself being targeted by a man who wanted to rob him.

Fox News reported that each of the men fired their respective weapons, with the suspect being struck once and pronounced dead at the scene. The intended victim has reportedly been cooperating with the police.

“We’ll contact the District Attorney’s Office to see how the district attorney wants to proceed. Whether it’d be referred to a grand jury, which is normally what happens in this type of situation,” Lt. Larry Crowson told ABC13

Police reportedly have many witnesses to this incident, and they will be speaking with them while also reviewing surveillance footage as they figure out how to proceed. Find out more about this in the video below.

Other Times A Shoot Was Stopped By A “Good Guy With A Gun”

According to John R. Lott, Jr., President of the Crime Prevention Research Center, these are just the latest in a string of heroic acts that prevented tragedies across the nation. Lott’s research uncovered 10 others in the last year and 21 since 2020.

“[T]here is no reason to believe those tallies are comprehensive, given how little media coverage is usually devoted to these heroic acts,” Lott wrote. “My organization has reviewed 64 total cases, but it is difficult to dig up cases from further back, since local news stories are likely to have disappeared from internet search results.”

This just goes to show how important legal, responsible gun owners really can be in these types of situations. Instead of pushing for more laws that make it difficult for law-abiding citizens to defend themselves, perhaps lawmakers should be encouraging more Americans to legally carry!
