Disney’s Aladdin, originally released in 1992, is based on the collection of Middle Eastern folktales, One Thousand and One Nights, weaving magic and romance into a classic childhood movie. But news has circulated that it’s no longer going to stay a wholesome movie for long.

That’s right, yet another Disney movie is on its way to becoming a horror film. It’s been confirmed that B22 Films will bring a twisted version of the beloved film in two parts, featuring Aladdin and Aladdin’s Revenge. The two-part saga, which will be written and directed by Brett Bentman and produced by Tiffany McDonald, is expected to arrive in 2026.

Starring in Disney’s Aladdin reimagining will be Devanny Pinn, known for her roles in The Black Mass, The Dawn, and Frost, and Billy Blair, known for his roles in 3 from Hell, Queen of the South, and Sin City.

Bentman shared his views on the film, saying that it shares the same roots as the Disney movie but leans heavily towards the aspect of material possession and obsession. “This Aladdin is rooted in the ancient tale. It’s the story about wanting things so badly, unaware of the consequences, that these characters just wish for them, and from there, things go haywire.”

It’s safe to say that Bentman is taking steps away from the family-friendly Disney movie, but it will still hold some of the same concepts of greed that are seen in Disney’s Aladdin.

While the twist is definitely interesting and cohesive to the original story, creating horror twists in Disney films hasn’t fared well. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare have had horrid ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, but hopefully, B22 is ready to give fans the horror journey they desperately need when it comes to this new Disney’s Aladdin reimagining.
