Chris Hemsworth, the A-list Hollywood star best known for his role as Thor in the Marvel cinematic universe, hit back at critics of the superhero movies, particularly acclaimed directors Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola.
Scorsese And Coppola Bash Marvel Movies
Scorsese, who directed such hits as Raging Bull and Taxi Driver, likened the comic book-themed movies to amusement parks and downplayed them as not “real cinema.”
Coppola, who directed The Godfather movies, would agree on that take, adding that superhero flicks are “despicable.”
Both men would later walk back those comments a bit, suggesting their disdain wasn’t with the movies themselves but with the genre and the lack of artistry in film-making.
Hemsworth, it seems, was personally offended by the sentiments.

Hemsworth Says Marvel Movies Deserve Respect
Hemsworth, 40, has played the character of Thor in several Marvel movies, most notably in the films of the same name as well as the Avengers series.
He also reprised the role in Doctor Strange and is slated to make a cameo in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine.
As a significant chunk of his acting career revolves around the character, Hemsworth made it clear that he was disappointed by criticism of the Marvel movies.
Speaking with the Times of London, Hemsworth indicated that the comments by Coppola and Scorsese were a bit “harsh,” especially coming from people he viewed as “heroes” in the real world.
“Those guys had films that didn’t work too,” he fired back. “We all have.”
“When they talked about what was wrong with superheroes, I thought, ‘Cool, tell that to the billions who watch them. Were they all wrong?'” he continued.
Hemsworth credited Marvel superhero movies for holding the interest of fans during the explosion of technology and social media.
“Superhero films actually kept people in the cinemas during that transition and now people are coming back,” he said. “They deserve a little more appreciation.”

Hemsworth also took a jab at a pair of actors who had roles in Marvel movies, only to bash them later.
Idris Elba – who portrayed Heimdall in the Thor movies – and Christian Bale – who played Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder – were mentioned.
“Nah, it’s like, ‘They’re films that are successful. Put me in one. Oh, mine didn’t work? I’ll bash them,'” Hemsworth fired back.
Hemsworth is currently involved in several non-Marvel projects. He will be seen in the upcoming movie Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, in which he plays a villain, marking a departure from his usual heroic roles.
This movie is set to be released in the United States toward the end of May.
In the film, Hemsworth plays Dementus, who Vanity Fair describes as “the charismatic leader of a biker horde.”
