California doctor and lawyer Michael Newdow has a habit of suing the government to remove “In God We Trust.” Apparently he has nothing better to do than bother religious believers.
That’s why it’s a great thing that the atheist’s latest attempt to have “In God We Trust” removed from U.S. currency got smacked down by a federal judge in Ohio.
Newdow and the other plaintiffs contend that using currency with this traditional saying forces them to promote religion. But, U.S. District Judge Benita Pearson tossed out the frivolous lawsuit, explaining that reasonable people don’t believe spending cash is promoting a religious agenda or message.
The video below is from when the lawsuit was originally filed, and further details Newdow’s points. Newdow immediately filed an appeal, so the fight isn’t completely over yet.
Newdow previously filed two lawsuits to have “under God” removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. He also filed the currency lawsuit in California. He failed at each attempt.
Here’s the question I want an answer to: If atheists don’t believe in God, why are they so offended by His name?
