A lot has happened since 1908. And Ruby Staley is reflecting on a lot of history as she celebrates her 109th birthday.
Ruby was married for more than 50 years before her husband died in 1988. She remained in the home they bought after their wedding for over 80 years! Today she lives in a Maryland retirement home.
That’s where she celebrated her birthday with the residents and her little sisters who are 91 and 93. Ruby looks great for her age. One sister claims the 109-year-old looks younger than her!
Ruby believes there is a special thing keeping her young – her love of chocolate!
“Staley says the reason she has lived to 109 is because she loves chocolate,” Jeannie Hurly, the retirement home’s assistant director of life enrichment said. “She also loves to talk about her family. She talks about the simple times in life, like sitting on her front porch eating fried chicken.”
