Last week, we reported that friends of the cooking sensation Rachael Ray are “deeply concerned” for her health. This came after she posted a bizarre video on Mother’s Day in which she simply did not look to be her normal self.
Now, Ray’s tragic past has been revealed, shedding some light on how she may have gotten to this point.
Ray Seems ‘Lost’ In Bizarre New Video
In recent months, Ray, 56, has been posting strange videos to social media. In many of them, she appears to slur her words or exhibit bizarre behavior. Indeed, in her Mother’s Day Instagram video, Ray seems to be struggling to get her words right.
Afterwards, a source told Daily Mail that Ray seems “lost” and lives a “very secluded life.” This has left her friends feeling extremely worried for her.

Ray’s Tragic Past
While Ray has always projected a positive image to her fans, it turns out that her life has been far from easy.
Ray had a difficult childhood that saw her struggle with various health woes. Making matters worse, she was relentlessly bullied by her peers.
When she managed to persevere through this and land a job in her “dream” city, tragedy struck once again when she was violently attacked by a man while walking home from work. Ray was pulled into an alley by her assailant. There, he “beat” her “with his gun” before making his escape. Ray was so shaken by this that she quit her job and moved back to her hometown.
Even after all of this, Ray continued to pursue her dreams. She eventually became a household name when she scored her own hit cooking show on The Food Network. However, her time in the spotlight has also been rocky. Over the years, Ray has dealt with rumors of racism, accusations of infidelity in her marriage, and constant public scrutiny.
Ray’s Struggles In Her Personal Life
On top of that, Ray’s personal life has been a struggle. In 2013, Ray’s beloved aunt Geraldine Dominica Scuderi, 77, died after accidentally locking herself outside in freezing-cold temperatures.
At the time, Scuderi was housesitting for Ray’s mother Elsa Scuderi. Ray’s cousin, Scuderi’s daughter, blamed the cooking sensation and the homeowner for her mother’s death. The tragedy ultimately ended up tearing Ray’s family apart.
Then, in 2020, Ray was left devastated when her home in upstate New York burned to the ground. This caused Ray and her husband John Cusimano, who she’s been married to for 20 years, to lose most of the personal items that they held dear.
“We lost a huge part of the physical evidence that we exist, all of the things we had created — paintings and pictures and music, plus everything we were gifted over the years or collected together as a couple; paintings that were made for us and letters that were written to us,” Ray later recalled of the fire.
“My mom is technically blind now, she’s 87, and I had decades of letters and cards from her,” she continued. “That was the first thing that hit me: ‘Oh my God, I lost those things.’ Not the stuff, but the things that we all hold on to that are our nostalgia and our personal history. That house was our home for 15 years. And it held everything of our 50-plus years, all of my husband’s music charts for decades of work, every notebook I’ve written since I was a little girl.”

Fears For Ray’s Health
Then came the fears for Ray’s health. This all started back in September, when she took to Instagram to post a video honoring the late singer Tony Bennett.
Fans responded by saying that Ray was “slurring” her speech in the video. Some questioned if she was drunk, while others thought she might be on a medication or suffering from a major health condition.
“Is she slurring or am I slurring,” one fan commented. Another added, “I love you but are you ok? I’m seriously concerned.”
“Rachel is in a bit of trouble?! I hope someone is just as concerned as I am?” a third fan wrote. A fourth person questioned, “What the heck is wrong with her? Messy hair, slurring words….wow just wow …”

Ray’s Friends Are ‘Concerned’ For Her
In the months since then, Ray has continued to post strange videos like the one above. This has led to her friends to become very “concerned” for her.
“Those close to Rachael are so concerned,” an insider recently told Daily Mail. “She has shut people out and lives a very secluded life. She seems lost and when anyone reaches out to her she doesn’t respond.”
This source went on to reveal the “very telling” sign that has Ray’s friends the most fearful for her.
“Rachael was always so meticulous about her appearance, and it is very telling and concerning that she now just doesn’t care,” the insider explained. “It is indicative of a bigger issue.”
