Yet another celebrity is getting slammed by fans. And this time, it’s the media personality, businesswoman, and socialite.
Paris Hilton is getting roasted by fans for claiming that she’s “self-made”. The famous heiress, 44, sparked backlash for making this claim in a new interview with The Sunday Times, that she’s rich all on her own with no handouts.
“I’m self-made. Like, I’ve done this all on my own,” Paris said about her media business, 11:11 Media, that is now valued at $1 billion with 25 employees. “No one’s ever given me anything in my entire life.”
Paris’ grandfather was the late billionaire Barron Hilton. When he died in 2019, Barron left 97% of his wealth to the Hilton family’s foundation and nothing to Paris. While her grandfather left nothing for her, her parents, Kathy Hilton and Rick Hilton, have a combined net worth of the hundreds of millions.
During the interview, Paris talked about her relationship with her late grandfather, saying, “We were extremely close and we would always have lunches and dinners, and he would always say to me, ‘Paris, you work harder than any CEO I know.'”
Paris Hilton became a household name in the early 2000s when she starred on the reality television show The Simple Life with BFF and fellow nepo baby Nicole Richie. From there, she built her business portfolio by creating clothing, fragrances, and other merchandise.
Since then, she’s only grown her fame by becoming a DJ and a singer, and the CEO and chairwoman of 11:11 Media.
Of course, her claim of being “self-made” has caused quite a stir on the internet. Fans quickly took to Reddit to voice their opinions on the matter, with one person saying, “You had a perfume called ‘Heiress.’ gurl be fr.”
Another commenter said, “If you weren’t a Hilton then you wouldnt be as big as you are. Yes you made a name for yourself but its because you came from wealth and a household name.”
Another post argued, “Even if you didn’t take seed money, handouts, or other direct support, there’s a huge difference between the kinds of risks someone coming from a background of wealth and security can take and someone just trying to keep food on the table can take.”
While many fans are arguing that she’s portraying narcissistic behaviors, others are simply saying that she’s ‘delusional’ for taking credit for her success as an entrepreneur.
The reality star previously told Refiner29, “I think of myself and anyone who does business as self-made. Everything I’ve done, I’ve done on my own, and yes, I do come from a last name, but there are also many children I know that come from families who, you know, take the choice of not doing anything with their lives.”
