Whoopi Goldberg celebrated her 70th birthday on her ABC talk show The View on Thursday. Unfortunately for Goldberg, her good buddy Joy Behar was absent from the show for the fourth day in a row, allegedly because of a foot injury.
While Behar wasn’t on the show yesterday, she still sent Goldberg a birthday present that was given to her live on air. What Behar gave her will undoubtedly come as a shock to many.
Behar’s Birthday Present For Goldberg
Goldberg kicked off Thursday’s show by walking out to on-screen confetti and a giant display that read “Happy birthday Whoopi.” After she sat down with her co-hosts, they presented her with a gift from Behar: homemade lasagna!
“As you can see, Joy is not here but she will be back,” Goldberg began. Her co-host Sunny Hostin then interjected to say, “However, Joy has sent you her lasagna.”
“She has been home baking and she said to please enjoy it before the cost of tariffs hit,” Hostin added.
Goldberg proceeded to make her own tariff joke, saying, “maybe I’ll put a tariff on it.”

Goldberg’s New ‘Mantra’
Later in her birthday segment, Goldberg danced to the Staple Singers’ 1972 hit “Respect Yourself.” She wsent on to reveal her “mantra” as she enters a new decade.
“I walked out to one of my favorite songs,” Goldberg stated. “People ask me why that song. It’s because it’s my birthday and because that’s my mantra these days: Respect yourself. If you don’t respect yourself, nobody’s gonna do it.”
Goldberg also made a point of wishing a happy birthday to her granddaughter, Claim to Fame star Amara, who turned 36 on Thursday. Indeed, the grandmother and granddaughter have the same birthday.
Goldberg Can’t ‘Afford’ To Retire?
Though Goldberg is now officially in her 70s, she has no plans to retire anytime soon.
Back in September, Goldberg stirred up controversy when she claimed that she can’t “afford” to retire. Her reasoning behind this was that didn’t “marry well.”
Many were skeptical of this, however, as Goldberg makes $8 million a year co-hosting The View. She also has an estimated net worth of between $30 million and $60 million.
Goldberg made these comments when she was asked by Entertainment Tonight if she’s considering “slowing down” at all.
“Who can afford to do that?” an incredulous Goldberg fired back.
“If you don’t marry well, you gotta keep working,” Goldberg, 69, shockingly went on to claim.
The reporter, who was seemingly stunned by the Sister Act star’s response, pointed out that Goldberg “could probably afford” to retire. However, she wasn’t having any of it. Instead, Goldberg responded, “No, not by now. Not yet.”
“I gotta keep paying those bills, baby,” she concluded.
Goldberg Isn’t Leaving The View
Though Goldberg is constantly putting her foot in her mouth and stirring up controversy, it appears that ABC very much wants to keep her on The View.
“Whoopi will stay on the show for as long as they will have her,” an insider told Daily Mail last week. “She’s not as controversial as the other hosts and certainly isn’t even considered to be on the chopping block.”
Another source chimed in to say that ABC executives are “happy with the panel and the direction of the show and many love Whoopi. She is staying for the foreseeable future, as long as she wants, and replacement talk or discussions about her leaving have not taken place.”
There doesn’t appear to be an age limit on The View. After all, Behar turned 83 last month, and she doesn’t appear to be going anywhere either.
We’re just glad that Goldberg’s birthday appears to have momentarily distracted her from spewing her radically liberal nonsense for a full hour on The View. Happy belated birthday, Whoopi. Here’s hoping you choose to slow down a bit in your 70s, because we’re sure tired of seeing you on The View!
