The hilarious Hollywood star Tim Allen managed to achieve sitcom success once again this year with his new hit ABC show Shifting Gears. Now, his Shifting Gears co-stars Kat Dennings and Seann William Scott are speaking out to reveal what working with a comedic legend like Allen is really like.
As it turns out, Tim Allen is just as awesome as we thought!
Allen’s Shifting Gears Costars Gush Over Him
Dennings, 38, has decades of experience in Hollywood. That’s why when she signed on to play Allen’s daughter on this sitcom, she knew to keep her expectations in check when it came to how she thought he’d behave.
“I have learned through experience that you just never really know how someone’s going to be, especially when they have such a long-running career,” Dennings told People Magazine. “Sometimes they’re exactly what you think, sometimes they’re the complete opposite.”
When it came to Allen, however, Dennings was relieved to see that he really is “kind” and “welcoming” to everyone on set. “
“I was very happily surprised,” the former 2 Broke Girls star admitted. Though she shouldn’t be!
Dennings went on to say that Allen likes to make the cast and the crew laugh when they’re working on set.
“He has the funny bone of a 9-year-old boy,” she gushed, adding that Allen often “walks into walls” and “bangs something and scares everybody.”
“He just has a blast,” she explained.

Scott Weighs In
As for Scott, 48, he finds working with Allen to be particularly fun because the Toy Story star reminds him of his own late father.
“He kind of reminds me of my dad, actually,” he admitted. “My dad passed away a while ago, you know, but even one of my brothers who loves the show sent me a text. He’s like, ‘Tim really reminds me of dad,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, you know, it’s true. He does.'”
It doesn’t get much sweeter than that, folks.
Like Dennings, Scott finds Allen to be “fun” to be around on set.
“I think when you’ve had that much success, there’s a good chance somebody could come in and not be as fun to work with and maybe just be kind of a jerk,” the former American Pie star explained.
Allen, however, is the complete opposite of that. Instead, he’s “just funny and always cracking jokes.”
“He’s definitely a guy’s guy, you know?” Scott concluded.

Allen Loves Making Shifting Gears
Allen has made no secret of the fact that he’s loved making Shifting Gears – his third hit sitcom in an industry where just one hit makes an entire career. Allen previously starred on the popular shows Home Improvement from 1991 until 1999, and Last Man Standing from 2011 until 2021.
“Somebody I was talking to called me the Tom Brady of TV with those three sitcoms, and I hadn’t thought of that but it got in my head,” Allen recently told USA Today.
Even after all these years, Allen is still in love with the sitcom format. One of his favorite things about Shifting Gears is getting to shoot the show old-school style in front of a live studio audience.
“Back in the day, this is how it was, you rehearsed it and shot it in front of real people, and I love that,” Allen explained. “In the movies, OK maybe I make the crew bust up, but that’s it. Doing Shifting Gears, I get to aim for the whole audience plus the crew. There’s nothing like it.”
In the crazy world of Hollywood, it often seems like many beloved stars are secretly terrible, self-centered people behind the scenes. That’s why it comes as a huge relief to know that Allen is seemingly just as funny and charismatic in real life as he is on his sitcoms!
