Last Friday, the world was shocked when the pop star Taylor Swift was subpoenaed as a witness in the case between her former best friend Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. Now, insiders are saying that Swift has been left devastated by this, and that she feels “exploited” by Lively.
Swift Is ‘Very Upset’
Sources told Daily Mail that Swift, 35, was “completely floored” when she was subpoenaed. The “Fortnight” singer is reportedly now “very upset” by this entire situation.
Swift and Lively, 37, had been close friends for years. They are neighbors in New York City. Swift is also godmother to the three daughters that Lively shares with the Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds.
However, everything changed back in December. It was then that Lively sued Baldoni, her 41 year-old co-star and director in the It Ends With Us. Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign against her.
The next month, Baldoni fired back by countersuing. He accused Lively and Reynolds, 48, of defamation. Swift got dragged into this when Baldoni’s filing included screenshots of text messages and emails that named Swift. In one exchange, Lively even referred to herself as Khaleesi, a character in Games of Thrones. She then referred to Swift as one of her “dragons.”
Baldoni went on to claim that Swift was present for a meeting about the movie that he had with Lively and Reynolds at their New York City penthouse. A source close to Swift, however, claimed that the singer only arrived at the penthouse when the meeting was already happening. This insider alleged that Swift had no active part in it.
Needless to say, Swift was not happy about being dragged into this messy situation. Indeed, she has been left feeling “used” by Lively. Over the past few months, Swift has reportedly taken a “step back” from their friendship.

Swift Fires Back After Being Subpoenaed
In the wake of being subpoenaed, Swift wants the world to know that claims that she had a lot of involvement in the production of It Ends With Us are false. For example, it’s been alleged that Swift personally approved the casting of actress Isabela Ferrer as the younger version of Lively’s character in the film. Swift claims that there is no truth to this.
“Speculation that Taylor chose young Lily in casting is simply untrue,” an insider close to Swift said. “This subpoena delves into events and things that did not occur.”
A spokesperson for Swift released a statement on Friday minutes after she was subpoenaed.
“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release,” the spokesperson said.
“The connection Taylor had to this film was permitting the use of one song, ‘My Tears Ricochet’ [on the soundtrack],” the spokesperson added.
Another source close to Swift said that the singer blames Lively for getting her involved in this.
“Taylor has been aware that Blake has been exploiting her name for a while now, but this subpoena takes it to a whole new level,” this insider concluded.

Lively Fires Back
As for Lively, she reacted to Swift being subpoenaed by blaming Baldoni once again.
“Mr Baldoni [continues] to turn a case of sexual harassment and retaliation into entertainment for the tabloids, going as far as suggesting that they sell tickets to a concert venue – Madison Square Garden – to witness Ms. Lively’s deposition, to subpoenaing Taylor Swift, a woman who has given a voice to millions the world over,” Lively’s spokesperson said on Friday.
Only time will tell how this legal battle turns out. However, it certainly seems unlikely that Swift and Lively’s friendship will recover from this!
