Taylor Swift is arguably the most famous pop star in the world right now. While there are tons of perks that come with this, there are also some downsides as well. Sadly, one of the worst aspects of Taylor’s massive fame is having to deal with crazed stalkers.
Now, the chilling death threats that were made against Taylor by one of her stalkers before he was jailed have been revealed.
Chilling Death Threats Against Taylor
Back in 2018, Taylor was targeted by stalker Eric Swarbrick. He believed that Taylor was his “soulmate.” He proceeded to write her forty letters that became increasingly deranged over time.
Eric’s brother Matthew was just interviewed on the latest episode of Investigation Discovery’s Hollywood Demons series. There, he revealed the horrifying contents of some of Eric’s letters to Taylor.
“The first one is not threatening, just strange,” Matthew explained. “But just a few months later, one of his letters references ‘I have one goal in mind, to push Taylor to kill herself for knowingly abandoning me to my mother.”
Starting in January of 2018, Eric began hand delivering his letters to Taylor’s record label Big Machine Label Group. As the letters continued, Eric became more and more violent and threatening. He even started lashing out at Big Machine Label Group.
“‘ll be the cultural sword that runs through her heart,” he wrote in one letter. Eric added in another, “Give her my letters or I’m gonna kill myself. And I’m also gonna kill her by the way.”
At one point, Eric told Big Machine Label Group that he would commit suicide in front of their employees. One year later, Taylor opened up about the terror that she experienced while being stalked by Eric.
“My fear of violence has continued into my personal life,” Taylor wrote in a piece for Elle Magazine in 2019.
“I carry QuikClot army grade bandage dressing, which is for gunshot or stab wounds,” she continued. “You get enough stalkers trying to break into your house and you kind of start prepping for bad things.”
Eric Arrested And Charged
Eric was eventually arrested. He ultimately pled guilty to interstate stalking and sending interstate communications. Eric was imprisoned for 30 months before being put into mandated care. According to Matthew, Eric has since started to turn his life around.
“After prison, he was seeing a psychiatrist and slowly he was starting to become his old self in a lot of ways,” Matthew stated.
Looking back at his brother’s stalking incident now, Matthew describes it as being “sad” and “depressing.”
“There are some people who need punishment and some people who need treatment, and I certainly wish he was taken to a mental health hospital earlier than they did,” Matthew lamented.
Taylor’s Other Stalkers
Sadly, this is far from the only stalker that Taylor has had to deal with over the years. In July of last year, a 34 year-old man was detained by police in Germany after making threats against Taylor and her boyfriend, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The man was detained after he then tried to attend one of Taylor’s concerts in Gelsenkirchen.

Months before that, in January of 2024, an unidentified man was arrested after he tried to break into Taylor’s New York City apartment. A spokesperson for the NYPD told Page Six at the time that officers were called about a “disorderly person” who had been attempting to open a door leading into Taylor’s building. Neighbors said they had seen the man snooping around in the area numerous times.
In June of 2023, an Indiana man named Mitchell Taebel was arrested. He was then charged with stalking, invasion of privacy, intimidation, and harassment. This came after Taebel allegedly repeatedly tried to contact Taylor, both on social media and in person at her Nashville home. He’d also sent threatening letters and voice messages to Taylor, her father, and her backup dancers. In December of 2023, however, the charges against Mitchell were dismissed.
These are just a few of the many stalkers that Taylor has had to contend with over the years. In the end, this serves as a reminder that there are indeed downsides to being the most famous pop star in the world.
