Over the past few months, the pop star Taylor Swift has been desperately trying to avoid being dragged into her former best friend Blake Lively’s messy court battle with Justin Baldoni.
Unfortunately for Swift, however, she got some bad news from a judge on Wednesday. This appears to confirm that Swift’s worst nightmares have come true. Indeed, it seems that she will be involved in this case after all.
Judge Gives Swift Bad News
Court documents obtained by People Magazine show that Judge Lewis J. Liman denied Lively’s motion for a protective order to keep her private text messages with Swift about her movie It Ends With Us out of the hands of Baldoni and his legal team. Baldoni’s lawyers had previously subpoenaed Swift in the It Ends With Us lawsuit. However, much to Swift’s relief, this subpoena was later withdrawn.
Undeterred by this, Baldoni’s attorneys continued to “demand” to see the records of Lively’s communications with Swift, 35. They claim that these communications are crucial to this lawsuit.
Baldoni, 41, declined to comment when contacted. Lively, however, was quick to fire back through a representative.
“The Court’s protective order ruling rests on the Wayfarer Parties’ admission that they received nothing from Taylor Swift, which is exactly the opposite of what their ‘insider’ claimed two weeks ago,” said the rep for Lively, 37.
“Baldoni’s desire to drag Taylor Swift into this has been constant dating back to August 2024, when the crisis PR firm led by Melissa Nathan included her in their ‘Scenario Planning’ document (Lively Amended Complaint, Exhibit D), referred to her as a bully, and called for a strategy to influence the ‘TS fanbase,'” the rep continued.
“We will continue to call out Baldoni’s relentless efforts to exploit Ms Swift’s popularity, which from day one has been nothing more than a distraction from the serious sexual harassment and retaliation accusations he and the Wayfarer parties are facing,” the rep concluded.

Judge Shuts Lively Down
In trying to get the protective order, Lively’s lawyers had claimed that Baldoni’s legal team has “pursued [these communications] at the same time they have refused to produce to Ms. Lively the documents they publicly claimed to have received as part of a deal to withdraw their subpoenas to Ms. Swift and her counsel.”
Unfortunately for Lively and Swift, however, Judge Liman wasn’t having any of the former’s efforts to keep their communications private.
“Given that Lively has represented that Swift had knowledge of complaints or discussions about the working environment on the film, among other issues, the requests for messages with Swift regarding the film and this action are reasonably tailored to discover information that would prove or disprove Lively’s harassment and retaliation claims,” the judge wrote in his June 18 decision.
Lively’s Lawsuit
This all started back in December, when Lively sued Baldoni, her co-star and director in the It Ends With Us. Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign against her.
The next month, Baldoni fired back by countersuing. He accused Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds of defamation. Much to her dismay, Swift got dragged into the case. This happened when Baldoni’s filing included screenshots of text messages and emails that named her. In one exchange, Lively even referred to herself as Khaleesi, a character in Games of Thrones. It was then that she referred to Swift as one of her “dragons.”
Baldoni went on to claim that Swift was present for a meeting about the movie. He allegedly had this meeting with Lively and Reynolds at their New York City penthouse. A source close to Swift, however, denied this claim. The insider claimed that the singer only arrived at the penthouse when the meeting was already happening. This insider alleged that Swift had no active part in it.
Swift Is ‘Done’ With Lively
Swift is reportedly so upset about being dragged into this messy situation that she has ended her friendship with Lively.
“There is no recovering from this,” an insider told Daily Mail last month. “Their friendship is done.”
“What Blake has done was exploit the Godmother of her children and manipulate the public into thinking that she was watching out for her best interests,” the source added.
This was a reference to Swift being the godmother of the three oldest daughters that Lively shares with Reynolds, 48: James, 10, Inez, 8, and Betty, 5. Find out more about that in the video below.
This is clearly a very messy situation for everyone involved. It’s no wonder that Swift wants absolutely no part in it.
Only time will tell if Swift is dragged into this court battle any further!
