Earlier this week, we reported that Rosie O’Donnell’s 27 year-old daughter Chelsea had been arrested while out on bail. This was her third arrest in three months. Now, Rosie is reminiscing about happier days with Chelsea as the young woman remains in jail in Wisconsin.
Rosie Reminisces About Chelsea
Rosie, 62, took to Instagram on Thursday to share an old photo of herself with Chelsea.
“Before it began #changes,” Rosie captioned the image. This was seemingly a reference to Chelsea’s drug issues that have led to her arrests.
Chelsea is the second of Rosie’s five children. The others are Parker Jaren, 29, Blake Christopher, 25, Vivienne, 22, and Dakota, 11. Rosie is also a grandmother to Chelsea’s four children: Skylar Rose, 5, Riley, 3, Avery Lynn 2, and Atlas, 14 months.
Chelsea’s Arrest
Chelsea was arrested in Marinette County on November 18 on two felony counts of possession of methamphetamine. She was also hit with a felony count of possession of narcotic drugs and two felony counts of bail jumping.
Chelsea, a 27 year-old mother of four, is additionally facing four misdemeanor charges for resisting or obstructing a police officer, possession of an illegally obtained prescription, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her preliminary hearing and arraignment is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, December 11.
Earlier this week, Rosie took to Instagram to break her silence about the situation.
“so yes this is true – after being bailed out by her birth mother – chelsea was arrested again – and is facing many charges related to her drug addiction,” Rosie wrote. “We all hope she is able to get the help she needs to turn her life around – #drug-addiction #tragic #sadness #truth.”
Chelsea’s birth mother is Kelli Carpenter, who Rosie married and divorced in 20o4. Rosie adopted Chelsea immediately after her birth. However, Rosie and Chelsea have been known to be estranged on and off over the years. Kelli reportedly posted Chelsea’s $4,000 bail on November 13.

Chelsea’s Previous Arrests
Chelsea was previously arrested in Wisconsin on September 10 and October 11. Each of these arrests were also related to drug possession, as well as felony child neglect. On September 24, Chelsea posted a $2,000 bond and was released, only to be arrested again the next month.
On November 26, Chelsea pleaded not guilty to charges related to her September arrest during a preliminary hearing and arraignment. She is next due in court for those charges on January 27, 2025.
After Chelsea’s second arrest, the O’Donnell family released a brief statement saying, “Sadly, this is not new for our family.”
“Chelsea has struggled with drug addiction for a decade — we are all hopeful she will find her way out of this deadly disease,” the family added.
Chelsea Rips Rosie
Last month, before her bail was posted, Chelsea lashed out at Rosie from jail. She specifically took issue with Rosie’s efforts to get Lyle and Erik Menendez, who murdered their parents back in 1989, released from prison. Chelsea lamented that meanwhile, Rosie had abandoned her behind bars.
“My mother is more interested in getting the Menendez brothers released from prison than getting me out,” Chelsea told Daily Mail from jail. “I have a drug problem. I need to go to rehab, but I never killed anyone like the Menendez brothers. My mother has turned her back on me.”
“When I called Rosie to ask her to bail me out, she told me flat out, ‘You belong in there,'” Chelsea alleged. “She said: ‘I really can’t help you get out of there; I don’t want you to kill yourself. I don’t want to be responsible for you killing yourself.'”
We certainly don’t agree with Rosie on much. However, we can send her sympathy about this difficult situation. Please join us in saying a prayer that Chelsea will be able to get her life back on track.
