Earlier this year, we reported that the comedian Rosie O’Donnell had fled the United States to move to Ireland. Now, O’Donnell is speaking out to admit to a “huge mistake” that she made.
O’Donnell’s ‘Huge Mistake’
In recent weeks, O’Donnell, 63, has been showing off her dramatic weight loss. She’s credited this to the weight loss drug Mounjaro. Now, O’Donnell is taking a look back at her past use of injectables.
Earlier this week, O’Donnell took to Instagram to post a photo of herself during her time on The Oprah Winfrey Network.
In the caption, O’Donnell wrote, “me on the own network right after i tried botox – a huge mistake- my head felt like i had masking tape on it – do not recommend.”
O’Donnell previously opened up about her feelings on plastic surgery in a 2021 interview with Vulture. At the time, O’Donnell claimed that avoiding going under the knife had actually helped her career.
“By the time I left my show in 2002, I was very well-known as that character. I think it would have been hard to cast me in a role in a movie,” she said. “I always knew as an actress that when I got into my 60s, I would be playing the Geraldine Page roles.”
O’Donnell went on to say that she “wasn’t going to have plastic surgery. I was going to look the way a woman my age should look, and I always thought that would be a blessing in my older age. I would get to play the Colleen Dewhurst roles. That has turned out to be true. I’m getting all this acting work now that I’m closing in on 60.”
Despite these comments, O’Donnell is known to have gone under the knife before. In 2013, she underwent a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy in a desperate attempt to curb her appetite.
O’Donnell’s Weight Loss
This comes after O’Donnell admitted that she is “shocked” by her weight loss. Earlier this month, she took to Instagram to share a photo of her slimmed down figure, claiming that she “can’t see” herself.
“Ok so went shopping to but a comfy lounge wear outfit for my 22 hour flight to Australia,” O’Donnell wrote alongside the photo. “Was undecided as i cant see myself in this new smaller body- cam n robin took this photo of me in the dressing room – i am shocked im a 12 – #mounjaro is a life saver 🥹❤️🇮🇪.”
O’Donnell Flees America
This comes after a hectic year for O’Donnell.
O’Donnell shocked the world when she fled the U.S. and moved to Ireland with her 12 year-old child Clay back in January.
In June, O’Donnell admitted to the former CNN host Chris Cuomo that she fled America because of Donald Trump’s presidential victory. She even described this move as being one of “self-preservation,” since she greatly struggled during Trump’s first presidency.
“During his first go-round, it was very difficult, and I got myself into some bad places,” said O’Donnell. “You know, I was very, very depressed. I was overeating, I was overdrinking. I was so depressed, Chris.”
Does O’Donnell Regret This Move?
In a May interview, O’Donnell claimed to have no regrets about making this move.
“Never, for one moment since I arrived here, did I regret my choice,” O’Donnell told Variety at the time. “People have been so welcoming, so accepting, and they have a different view of celebrity in the culture here. They are not prioritized over other people.”
In another video posted to TikTok, however, O’Donnell admitted that “it’s not easy moving to another country.”

Only time will tell if O’Donnell ultimately concludes that fleeing America was a “huge mistake” for her. Regardless, it truly does seem like America is better off without O’Donnell in it.
