Earlier today, we reported that ABC has suspended Jimmy Kimmel’s late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely over vile comments that he made about the assassination of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Now, the legendary comedienne Roseanne Barr has broken her silence about Kimmel’s suspension. This comes seven years after Kimmel celebrated when ABC fired the pro-Trump Barr over a tweet that she posted.
Kimmel Suspended By ABC
On Monday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, host Kimmel falsely suggested that Kirk’s assassin was “MAGA.” In reality, the shooter was a radicalized young man who held far-left ideologies, according to investigators.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said on Monday night
On Wednesday, ABC suspended Kimmel indefinitely. Insiders told Daily Mail that Kimmel, 57, was “absolutely [expletive] livid” when he heard of his suspension. This came mere hours before he was set to go on air for his nightly program.
Barr Sounds Off
As for Barr, however, she made it clear that she has no sympathy for Kimmel after what she went through at the hands of ABC herself.
“Yeah imagine an administration putting pressure on a television channel to fire a comedian they didn’t like,” Barr, 72, wrote on social media on Wednesday night.
Barr wrote this in response to a post written by the leftwing political commentator David Frum.
“Trying to imagine the reaction if the Biden administration had demanded that Fox fire Greg Gutfeld because he wasn’t sufficiently sad about the assault on Paul Pelosi,” Frum had posted.
Earlier that same night, Barr sarcastically offered to fill in for Kimmel should ABC need her services.
“I’m available to fill in @ABCNetwork,” Barr wrote in response to a post about Kimmel’s suspension.
If only ABC would take Barr up on her offer, they might actually get some of the ratings back that Kimmel cost them for years!
Barr also shared a clip from 2018 in which Kimmel pushed for ABC to fire her over a tweet. Indeed, many would argue that this clip exposes Kimmel as someone who has never been the pillar of free speech that he’s trying to portray himself to be now.
Barr Canceled By ABC
If anyone knows what it’s like to be “canceled” for exercising her right to freedom of speech, it’s Barr.
Back in 2018, ABC canceled the hugely successful reboot of Barr’s eponymous sitcom Roseanne. This came after Barr posted a tweet about Barack Obama’s former advisor Valerie Jarrett that some felt was racist in nature.
ABC then brought back Roseanne as the new show The Conners with all the cast members from the reboot except for Barr. That show ran until the spring of 2025.
After the former President Obama took to social media to condemn ABC for suspending Kimmel, Barr was quick to fire back at him.
“After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like,” Obama wrote.
Barr, however, wasn’t having any of it.
“Remember when you and your wife called Bob Iger to have me fired?” Barr wrote in response, referring to the head of Disney.
Boom!
Conservatives in entertainment have been silenced for simply expressing their political views for years. Now, the liberal elites of Hollywood are finally getting a taste of their own medicine.
If Kimmel really believed in freedom of speech, he would have defended Barr’s right to speak her mind and still keep her job years ago. Instead, he celebrated her downfall simply because she votes differently than he does politically.
Seven years later, Kimmel has finally been given the nasty dose of karma that he deserves. Good riddance, Jimmy Kimmel!
