Last month, we reported that the cooking sensation and talk show host Rachael Ray had admitted to having “huge screaming matches” with her husband John Cusimano, who she’s been married to since 2005. This came after weeks of concerns over the health of Ray, who was seen slurring her words back in September.
Now, Ray is speaking out to admit to fans that her marriage is “weird.”
Ray’s ‘Weird’ Marriage
“One of the things that I think has been essential to my life and my success over the years is the partner that I chose,” Ray, 56, said while interviewing chef Jacques Pépin on Tuesday’s episode of her podcast I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead.
“I love my husband John, and John works with me and has built our business and our brand together, but we agree in concept about service to community, service to the world, service to animals, to children,” she continued.
Ray went on to admit that it took her and Cusimano some time to find one another.
“My husband and I didn’t get married until very late in life, 37 and 38 years old,” the Food Network star explained. “But it was very important to me that I marry him because I thought this person could be a true partner in what I believe in and building, not a business, but a community.”
While Ray loves Cusimano, she can’t deny that her marriage is “weird” in some ways.
“He’s a lawyer and a musician. I’m not a musician, I’m certainly no lawyer… but we balance each other in a weird way,” she stated. “We allow each other to be open to different worlds… It’s balance.”

Ray’s ‘Huge Screaming Matches’ With Cusimano
Last month, Ray made headlines when she defended having “huge screaming matches” with Cusimano.
“It’s very hard, especially for hot-tempered or creative or vociferous loud people to be able to just calm it down,” Ray said on the premiere episode of her podcast. “John and I don’t calm it down ever. We have huge screaming matches all the time, but I think that’s healthy. I really do. And I don’t trust people that are too quiet.”
“Too quiet freaks me out,” Ray continued. “I prefer that you tell me what you think when you think it and let’s just get it all out there.”
Ray went on to shockingly say that she and Cusimano never apologize to each other.
“I don’t know that we ever apologize to each other,” Ray responded. “Eventually I pat him on his ass or he kisses me on the head, and that’s just sort of it. That’s the apology. It’s just sort of understood. ‘I still like your ass.’ ‘I still like your head.’ It’s kind of in that zone.”

Fears For Ray’s Health
Back in September, fears grew for Ray’s health when she took to Instagram to post a video honoring the late singer Tony Bennett. Fans responded by saying that Ray was “slurring” her speech in the video. Some questioned if she was drunk, while others thought she might be on a medication or suffering from a health condition.
“Is she slurring or am I slurring,” one fan commented. Another added, “I love you but are you ok? I’m seriously concerned.”
“Rachel is in a bit of trouble?! I hope someone is just as concerned as I am?” a third fan wrote. A fourth person questioned, “What the heck is wrong with her? Messy hair, slurring words….wow just wow …”
