The former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson has been known as one of the sexiest women alive for decades. Now, however, she’s pushing back against her “sex symbol” status in a big way.
Anderson Despises Being A ‘Sex Symbol’
Earlier this week, Anderson was interviewed by Elizabeth Day on her “How to Fail” podcast. There, Anderson revealed exactly why she has no interest in being seen as a sex symbol.
“I don’t like being a sex symbol, I mean, I think it’s not very sexy,” said Anderson, 58. “I think we all aspire to be sexy in our relationships, but sexy for the world is, I don’t know.”
Anderson went on to say that being a sex symbol “brought a lot of attention I didn’t like, but I hate to say that because I’m not complaining. But I do feel that is kind of a slippery slope where you are presenting yourself to the world like this. And you get this attention back that can be even scary at times.”
Anderson added that as she approaches 60, she’s opting for a more natural look.
“I want to challenge myself and become and present myself in different ways because women are many things,” she explained. “We’re not just the wild animal between the sheets.”
Not stopping there, Anderson admitted that she’s found expectations from people in her life to be “pretty jarring” at times.
“But I’m glad I’m in this place now, and looking back I think, ‘Well, I got to be that person, I got to have those experiences,’ and those are all part of me,” she continued. “And there’s some places I’ve now compartmentalized my life a little bit more I present myself one way, I can be in a relationship one way I can still be wild and crazy when I want to, but it’s not 24/7.”

Anderson’s Career Resurgence
Anderson has been enjoying a career resurgence as of late. Indeed, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for 2024’s The Last Showgirl. Most recently, Anderson starred alongside Liam Neeson in the new Naked Gun movie, which hits theaters on August 1.
In her latest interview, Anderson admitted that “disappointed” with how her career had previously gone. She recalled “thinking I was never really going to be able to reach what I thought would be my full potential. I’ve always been kind of carrying the secret that I could do more, but this business has a funny way about it.”
Anderson skyrocketed to fame in the 1990s when she played the lifeguard C.J. Parker on the hit show Baywatch. To this day, she struggles with the connotation of being “that girl in the red bathing suit, you know, the marriages, or just the personal part of it” when she hears her name.
“So, if I feel that way, I’m sure many people feel that way,” she added. “It’s been a funny kind of excavation in these last few years as to remember who I am, what are my original thoughts, what are my dreams and desires and how do I go about round two with all the lessons that I learned the first time around and thinking I just don’t want to fall into the same trappings.”

Anderson Isn’t Going To ‘Chase Youth’
In the end, Anderson wants it to be known that she isn’t planning to “chase youth.”
“That’s just been fed to us to look as young as we can as long as we possibly can. And I don’t know, I think it gets more interesting,” she concluded.
It’s nice to see Anderson enjoy such success at this later stage of her career. While she’ll always be appreciated for her beauty, we can certainly see why Anderson is trying to get away from her “sex symbol” image.
God bless you, Pamela Anderson!
