Over the past few months, rumors have been swirling that Barack and Michelle Obama are heading for divorce. These claims allege that Barack and Michelle have been living “separate lives” for quite some time.
Now, Michelle is speaking out to complain about the cost of living in the White House. Despite having an estimated net worth of between $70 and $135 million dollars, Michelle wants the world to know that living in the White House was expensive when it came to food and travel.
Michelle Complains About White House Life
“Because it’s expensive to live in the White House. Many people don’t know, but much is not covered,” Michelle lamented while appearing on the Diary of a CEO podcast.
“You’re paying for every bit of food you eat. You’re not paying for housing and the staff in it but everything, even travel,” she continued. “If you’re not traveling with the president, if your kids are coming on Bright Star – the First Lady’s plane – we had to pay for their travel to be on the plane.”
Unfortunately for Michelle, however, these comments are already backfiring on her. Indeed, social media users are attacking Michelle for complaining about the cost of living in the White House, given how much money she has.
“They have no real conception of the word ‘struggle’ or ever experienced any type of real-life struggles like Americans are experiencing today,” one social media user commented. Another added, “Most of us have to pay for our own food & transportation in addition to rent/mortgage, utilities, insurance, healthcare, etc. What makes you so special?”
“This is a really bad look and is going to fall flat if she wanted to garner sympathy,” a third social media user wrote. “No one in America gets anything for their family for free because of their job.”

Michelle Tries To Shut Down Obama Divorce Rumors
The Obama divorce rumors escalated back in January, when Michelle didn’t attend the funeral of Jimmy Carter and the inauguration of Donald Trump. Instead, Barack had to attend these events alone. Indeed, Michelle was the only living former First Lady to not attend the events, which raised some serious eyebrows.
Michelle addressed her refusal to attend these events in Thursday’s interview.
“I feel like now I have permission to do what I want to do,” she said. “I think at 61, I’m finally owning my wisdom….I think it takes women until we’re about 60 to be like, ‘I think I know a thing or two.’”
Michelle then specifically addressed not attending the Trump inauguration.
“What do I want to do in this moment? As a box-checking, a person who has been box-checking her whole life, doing the right thing, trying to always be an example, always going high, I think now I earned a little bit of ‘well, how do I feel?’” she said. “’Do I want to upend my life and take this trip and leave my peace and my children for this?’ I didn’t have to, but that was my choice.”
Michelle concluded by saying that when she was younger, she “never” would have missed an event if it felt like the “right thing to do for other people to set an example.”

Obama Divorce Rumors
Despite Michelle’s attempts to shut down her divorce rumors, they are still running rampant.
“I have been hearing this rumor that the Obamas are getting a divorce by reputable people,” political commentator Meghan McCain said on reporter Tara Palmeri’s podcast back in January. “I’m not talking about TMZ, I’m not talking about Perez Hilton, although I love him, he’s my friend.”
“I’m talking about like very serious journalists telling me that they’re hearing that the Obama divorce rumors are true,” she added.
“We’ve heard that for a long time,” replied Tara, who has long covered Washington politics. “Like I just heard that they live separate lives.”

Michelle can keep trying to shut down claims that she’s divorcing Barack all that she wants to. However, complaining about the cost of living in the White House certainly won’t do anything to put these rumors to rest. Only time will tell if the Obamas actually end up staying together!
