Over the past few months, rumors have been swirling that Barack and Michelle Obama are heading for divorce. These claims allege that Barack and Michelle have been living “separate lives” for quite some time.
Now, Michelle is firing back at these divorce rumors in a big way. Despite the months of speculation that her marriage is ending, Michelle is denying that there is any issue between her and Barack.
Michelle Sounds Off
“If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it,” Michelle, 61, said while appearing on The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett podcast on Thursday.
Michelle then pointed at her older brother and IMO podcast co-host Craig Robinson, 63, saying, “He would know it. And everybody would know it. I’m not a martyr. I would be problem solving in public. ‘Let me tell you what he did.’”
“If they were having a problem, I would be doing a podcast with him,” Craig joked in response.
Earlier in the podcast, Michelle admitted to making comments about rocky times in her marriage to Barack, 63. However, she claimed that they were never actually at risk of divorcing.
“The beauty of my husband and our partnership is that neither one of us was really ever gonna quit at it, ’cause that’s not who we are,” Michelle said. “And I know that about him. He knows that about me.”
Michelle Skips Major Events – Forces Barack To Attend Alone
The Obama divorce rumors escalated back in January, when Michelle didn’t attend the funeral of Jimmy Carter and the inauguration of Donald Trump. Instead, Barack had to attend these events alone. Indeed, Michelle was the only living former First Lady to not attend the events, which raised some serious eyebrows.
Michelle addressed her refusal to attend these events in Thursday’s interview.
“I feel like now I have permission to do what I want to do,” she said. “I think at 61, I’m finally owning my wisdom….I think it takes women until we’re about 60 to be like, ‘I think I know a thing or two.’”
Michelle then specifically addressed not attending the Trump inauguration.
“What do I want to do in this moment? As a box-checking, a person who has been box-checking her whole life, doing the right thing, trying to always be an example, always going high, I think now I earned a little bit of ‘well, how do I feel?’” she said. “ ‘Do I want to upend my life and take this trip and leave my peace and my children for this?’ I didn’t have to, but that was my choice.”
Michelle concluded by saying that when she was younger, she “never” would have missed something if it felt like the “right thing to do for other people to set an example.”
“I think I just told myself, ‘I think I’ve done enough of that. And if I haven’t, then I never will. It will never be enough,’” she stated.

Obama Divorce Rumors
Despite Michelle’s attempt to shut down these divorce rumors, they are still running rampant.
“I have been hearing this rumor that the Obamas are getting a divorce by reputable people,” political commentator Meghan McCain said on reporter Tara Palmeri’s podcast in January. “I’m not talking about TMZ, I’m not talking about Perez Hilton, although I love him, he’s my friend.”
“I’m talking about like very serious journalists telling me that they’re hearing that the Obama divorce rumors are true,” she added.
“We’ve heard that for a long time,” replied Tara, who has long covered Washington politics. “Like I just heard that they live separate lives.”
Listen to Meghan and Tara talk more about this in the clip below.
Michelle can deny that she and Barack are heading for divorce all that she wants to, but many people simply aren’t buying it. Only time will tell if Michelle and Barack actually end up staying together!
