Over the past few months, rumors have been swirling that Barack and Michelle Obama are heading for divorce. According to these rumors, Barack and Michelle have been living “separate lives” for quite some time.
On Monday, Michelle added fuel to these rumors in a big way when she waited hours to wish Barack a happy birthday. Indeed, it was only after Michelle was called out by the media that she finally posted a brief birthday message to Barack on social media on the night of his 64th birthday.
Michelle Gets Called Out
Starting early Monday morning, the birthday messages poured in for Barack. As the day went on, however, one name was noticeably absent from Barack’s birthday tributes. Many gradually noticed that Michelle, 61, had yet to address Barack’s birthday publicly in any way despite being married to him for 33 years. Instead, her silence was truly deafening.
It didn’t take long for Michelle to get called out for this. Daily Mail ran a story that was titled “Michelle Obama FAILS to wish husband Barack happy birthday amid swirling divorce rumors.”
“Today marks former President Barack Obama’s 64th birthday,” The Mail reported. “And as the birthday wishes roll in from countless celebs and political figures – including U.S. Representative Robin Kelly and TV host Claudia Jordan – one particular voice seems to be missing: Michelle Obama.”
“The former First Lady, 61, known for her thoughtful Instagram captions and sweet tributes, has yet to publicly acknowledge her husband’s big day,” the publication continued. “The silence is raising more than a few eyebrows – especially given the persistent rumors swirling about the state of their marriage.”
Michelle Backs Down – Finally Issues Birthday Message
It seems that this story may have struck a nerve with Michelle. On Monday night, with just a few hours of Barack’s birthday left to go, Michelle took to Instagram to finally post a brief birthday message for her husband.
“Happy birthday to my love, my best friend, my everything! @BarackObama, even after all these years, you’re still the coolest guy I know,” Michelle wrote, adding some heart emojis for good measure.
Barack quickly replied in the comments section, writing, “Love you, Miche! And thanks everybody for all the birthday wishes.”
Michelle may have managed to get her birthday post in for Barack just in the nick of time. Given how active she is on social media these days, however, it’s still raising some serious eyebrows that it took her until Monday night to address her husband’s birthday in any way.
Obama Divorce Rumors
This comes at a difficult time for the Obamas, as they have been plagued by rampant divorce rumors for months. These divorce rumors escalated in a big way back in January, when Michelle skipped both the funeral of Jimmy Carter and the inauguration of Donald Trump. She was the only living former First Lady to miss each of these events. This forced Barack to attend both events alone.
“I have been hearing this rumor that the Obamas are getting a divorce by reputable people,” political commentator Meghan McCain said on reporter Tara Palmeri’s podcast earlier this year. “I’m not talking about TMZ, I’m not talking about Perez Hilton, although I love him, he’s my friend.”
“I’m talking about like very serious journalists telling me that they’re hearing that the Obama divorce rumors are true,” she continued.
“We’ve heard that for a long time,” replied Tara, who has long covered Washington politics. “Like I just heard that they live separate lives.”

Barack Admits He’s ‘In A Deep Deficit’ With Michelle
While speaking at Hamilton College in April, Barack eluded to conflicts with Michelle when he admitted to being in a “deep deficit” with his wife.
“This is like 50 term papers. I mean, it just goes on forever,” Barack said at the time. “I’m hoping to get to the finish line on that.”
“Beyond that, look, I was in a deep deficit with my wife, so I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things,” the former president added.
Michelle Accused Of ‘Really Disliking’ Barack
Back in March, Michelle launched her IMO podcast with her older brother Craig Robinson, 64. Since then, Michelle has used it to bash Barack and air his dirty laundry seemingly every chance she gets.
In fact, Michelle has complained about Barack so many times on her podcast that the former Fox News host Tucker Carlson recently claimed that the former First Lady “really dislikes her husband, and it’s super obvious.”
“I’m not just saying that to be catty,” Tucker explained. “I think I’m trying to feel compassion for her but her hostility toward the guy is unbelievable.”
Tucker’s fellow former Fox News host Megyn Kelly was quick to agree. She pointed out that “everything Michelle says about her husband is negative.”
“I almost never say negative things about Doug,” Megyn added, referring to her husband Doug Brunt. “He’s not perfect but when I think about him, I don’t immediately go to whatever is negative. I go to what’s positive and what I love about him.”

The Obamas Respond
Last month, Barack appeared on Michelle’s IMO podcast. There, they desperately tried to shoot down the escalating divorce rumors.
“There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quitting my man,” Michelle claimed. “And we’ve had some really hard times. So we had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”
“These are the kinds of things that I just miss, right?” Barack chimed in to add. “So I don’t even know this stuff’s going on. And then somebody will mention it to me and I’m all like, ‘what are you talking about?'”
Unfortunately for the Obamas, however, many are still not buying their claims that their marriage is still going strong.
Michelle waiting so long to wish Barack a happy birthday will certainly do nothing to help her case that all is well in her marriage. Only time will tell if the Obama marriage will actually survive!
