Taking Over

Averill succeeds Moira Walley-Beckett as showrunner. Walley-Beckett left the project in June, a year after she signed on to pen the adaptation.

Among the possible options for a new showrunner was WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer. The final decision seems to be with Meredith Averill for the series.

Meredith Averill appears in several projects other than Wednesday, season 2. Averill was the co-developer, executive producer, and co-showrunner on Netflix’s Locke & Key, based on the beloved comic books.

She was also the creator and executive producer of the CW’s Star-Crossed and executive producer of Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House.

What is Fourth Wing About?

Slated as a five-book series, Fourth Wing follows twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail as she trades the life of a Scribe for the life of a dragon rider. At the demands of her mother, a General in the military of Navarre, her work transfer includes enrolling in the brutal Basgiath War College. The only rule? Graduate or die.

The series currently has three books out: Fourth Wing (2023), Iron Flame (2023), and Onyx Storm (2025). The titles and release dates for the fourth and fifth novels have not been announced.

If the show is successful, hopefully, viewers can enjoy the following books in the series on the television screen.

Success of the Book Series

Fourth Wing spent 88 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, with 18 of those weeks at the number one spot.

The novel and subsequent series have quickly taken hold of the popular BookTok section of TikTok, and readers everywhere are excited for the eventual adaptation.
