Schaeffer Eyes Showrunner Spot

Schaeffer would be replacing Moria Walley-Beckett, who recently left the project after being hired for the adaptation last July.

While Schaeffer’s involvement is just a rumor as of now, she’s reportedly signed a deal with the studio and is one of the top names being considered for the job.

The project does not have a series order from Amazon or a cast attached as of this time.

Schaeffer’s Past Successes

Schaeffer has made a name for herself in recent years.

She was the creator, writer, and executive producer of Marvel’s WandaVision and spin-off Agatha All Along. WandaVision went on to earn Emmy and WGA Award nominations, including a writing nomination for Schaeffer. Agatha All Along was also in Emmy contention.

Her most recent project is directing and executive producing the pilot for Disney+’s Holes reboot.

Other Additions to the Producing Team

In addition to the showrunner, there have been other changes to the production team.

Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s Amazon MGM Studios-based Kilter Films (Fallout, The Peripheral) has joined Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society. The Outlier company has been on board since Amazon MGM Studios scored the television rights to the novels in 2023.

What is Fourth Wing About?

Written by Rebecca Yarros, Fourth Wing is the first book in a planned five-book series.

Also known as the Empyrean series, the story follows twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail, who leaves the life of a Scribe to become a dragon rider. Forced by her mother, who is the General in the military of Navarre, Violet joins the ranks of the Basgiath War College, which trains up-and-coming riders through the Graduate or Die method.

Violet must endure deadly quests while also being pursued by one of the most dangerous riders around, Xaden Riorson.

Success of the Fourth Wing Series

The Fourth Wing series has taken the world by storm.

The first novel spent 88 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, 18 of those weeks at #1. This large following was mostly due to BookTok, a reading-based subset of TikTok.

The first three novels of the series have sold more than 12 million copies in the United States. The third and latest book, Onyx Storm, sold 2.7 million copies in its first week alone, making it the fastest-selling adult novel in twenty years.
