It’s no secret that there has long been no love lost between the royal sister-in-laws Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton. Now, new reports are indicating that the bad blood between them may be escalating behind the scenes.
It’s been five years since Meghan and her husband Prince Harry stepped down as senior royals. They then moved across the world to Southern California, where Meghan was born and raised. Despite all the time that has gone by, insiders are claiming that Meghan still feels “bitter” about Kate, whose husband William is set to become the next King of England.
Meghan Feels ‘Bitter’ About Kate’s Popularity
Meghan, 43, allegedly felt “hurt” when she was accused of being a “disaster tourist” last month. She was hit with this dubious moniker after she volunteered her time and effort to help victims of the L.A. wildfires. Indeed, many critics accused Meghan of making the wildfires all about herself.
No good deed, as they say.
Meanwhile, around that same time, Kate visited a children’s hospice facility in Wales. There, Kate took part in a craft session with the kids. Meghan was left feeling “bitter” about this because she felt that Kate, 43, didn’t receive the same wave of backlash for this visit that she had for her own wildfire rescue activities.
“Meghan has of course noticed how millions of royal watchers seem to fawn over Kate’s every move – without giving her work so much as a passing look,” the insider told Closer Weekly. “The fact she was slammed for helping out in the wildfire relief effort while Kate’s held up as this almost saintly figure does hurt her.”
While we are not ourselves royal experts, perhaps the positive media for Kate is due to the fact that she did not step down as a senior royal and move to a foreign country, as Meghan has?
Regardless, here is an example of the “disaster tourist” charge being leveled at Meghan:

Meghan Thinks She Can’t Win
Meghan has been left feeling like she can’t win, according to this source.
“People seem to want her to sit home and stay out of sight but that’s not her, she doesn’t want to always be outshone,” the insider continued. “She feels it’s a duty of hers to show everybody that she’s just as much Diana’s daughter-in-law as Kate is.”
Perhaps it is that notion – trying to tie herself to a very popular woman who is seen in some circles as a sort of martyr – that turns people off.
“When Harry and Meghan gave up their official royal duties, they were told that everyone can serve in their own way, and this is their way of serving,” the source added. “Yet it seems that no matter what they do— even more so, everything Meghan does— will be interpreted in a negative way. It feels like an uphill battle, and the fact that people found fault with her helping out victims of a wildfire makes it clear that she can’t win, and that is very disheartening.”
Kate’s Popularity Still ‘Winds’ Meghan Up
The insider went on to say that Meghan feels some compassion towards Kate, who successfully battled cancer last year. However, Meghan still can’t help but be “bitter” over how popular Kate is compared to her.
“Meghan feels incredibly hard done by and really doesn’t appreciate the disparity of it all, even though she’s softened a lot towards Kate and wishes her nothing but good health after everything she’s been through,” the source explained. “It’s something she’s just got to learn to live with at this point, but it still winds her up.”
It certainly appears that a royal reconciliation between Meghan, Kate, and their respective husbands won’t be happening anytime soon. In the end, Meghan might want to find a way to cope with Kate’s popularity. Unfortunately for Meghan, it doesn’t seem like the love for Kate will be decreasing in the near future!
