
Luke Newton is getting ready to dive into the theater world again.
On Tuesday, July 8th, it was announced that the 32-year-old Bridgerton star would play the late fashion designer Lee Alexander McQueen in a new Off-Broadway play, titled House of McQueen.
When asked about the newest addition to the stage, executive producer Rick Lazes commented, “It is our absolute pleasure to announce Luke’s involvement with House of McQueen. We can’t think of anyone better suited to bring Lee’s story to life than this incredibly impressive multi-hyphenate.”

What is House of McQueen About?
The official synopsis for the House of McQueen reads:
“The play will take guests through Lee’s layered individual experience, from his early days as an emerging designer, to later building one of the most important fashion houses in the world, and ultimately his tragic passing in 2010. Within the performance, intimate relationships with key figures in his life, ranging from mentor Isabella Blow to blood relatives, will be explored surrounded by a highly produced landscape complete with floor-to-ceiling LED panels designed to shift environments on stage.”
Behind the Scenes
House of McQueen will be directed by Sam Helfrich and produced by Rick Lazes. Gary James McQueen, the nephew of the late designer, will also join the production crew as the creative director.

When Does House of McQueen Premiere?
The House of McQueen play will begin previews on August 19th at The Mansion at Hudson Yards. The official opening for the play is set for September 9th. This will be the first production at the new Hudson Yards, Manhattan, venue.

This isn’t Newton’s first time on stage. Past London stage credits include The Book of Mormon and, most recently, Neil LaBute’s The Shape of Things.

Luke Newton is widely recognized for his starring role as Colin Bridgerton in the Netflix series Bridgerton, based on the novels by Julia Quinn. With Colin’s love story featured in Season 3, the show has recently wrapped production on Season 4, which is set to debut in 2026.
Newton also recently wrapped production on the upcoming sci-fi thriller White Mars, starring opposite Lucy Hale. Newton has also been in several short films and smaller roles.

McQueen Documentary
While you’re waiting for House of McQueen to hit the stage, consider watching the 2018 documentary McQueen.
The documentary examines the late fashion designer’s life and legacy, diving into his London East End upbringing to building a brand beloved by the royals and A-list celebrities.
It also highlights some of McQueen’s personal struggles, including the sexual abuse he endured from his older sister Janet’s then-husband Terence Hulyer, who also abused Janet.
McQueen later took his own life on February 11th, 2010.
