“They say that truth is stranger than fiction, and you really couldn’t have made this story up,” says Sarah Williams, the series writer and creator. “No one would believe it.”

The story is set in the 1930s in the years leading to World War II The show’s tagline reads, “six sisters who refused to play by the rules and whose often-scandalous lives made headlines around the world.”

One such headline was “Diana the fascist, Jessica the communist, Unity the Hitler-lover, Nancy the novelist, Deborah the duchess and Pamela the unobtrusive poultry connoisseur,” which was how Ben Macintyre once described the girls when he was a writer for The Times of London.

What has fans so excited for the film is that Bessie Carter will be starring in it. Carter is a fan-favorite actress for the drama genre because of her role in Bridgerton as Prudence Featherington. Playing as Nancy, fans are ready to dive into the new world to see more of her performance.

“The fact that the times the girls were growing up in, the 1930s, were so tumultuous and uncertain, rather like our own, makes it even more relatable. And whilst some of them were drawn towards the most repellent political causes, it has been fascinating to explore why and how that happened – and why some sisters were completely immune,” Williams said.

But how do you stream the new British drama Outrageous? The first episode of the show is available on BritBox International already. You can subscribe to the streaming platform for $8.99 a month, after a seven-day free trial.
