Last month, we reported that the country music star Lainey Wilson was lamenting that she might need to take the initiative and propose herself to her boyfriend of three years, the former NFL player Devlin “Duck” Hodges. Indeed, Wilson appeared to be frustrated that Hodges had not popped the question yet himself.

Thankfully, that has all changed. On Wednesday, Wilson confirmed that she is finally engaged!

Wilson Finally Gets Engaged

Wilson, 32, took to Instagram to post a series of photos announcing her engagement. The images depicted the big moment in which Hodges got on one knee and asked Wilson to marry him. She also included a video of herself expressing her excitement about finally being engaged.

“4x4xU forever โค๏ธ,” Wilson wrote in the caption.

Hodges is a former NFL player who previously played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Rams. He now works in real estate.

Wilson Thought She’d Need To Propose

This comes one month after Wilson was interviewed by her fellow country music star Jelly Roll’s wife Bunnie Xo for CMT. In this interview, Bunnie expressed her hope that Wilson and Hodges would get engaged at some point in 2025.

“No pressure, brother! No pressure,” Wilson told Bunnie in response. “I might have to propose to him. We waiting!”

“No, Duckโ€™s gonna do it. I could feel it,” Bunnie replied. This led Wilson to admit, “I like that.”

Sure enough, Wilson didn’t end up needing to propose after all!

This wasn’t the first time that Wilson publicly joked about proposing to Hodges herself. When she debuted their relationship at the ACM Awards in May of 2023, she revealed that they’d been secretly dating for over a year.

“We’re not secretly engaged,” she clarified at the time. “No!

“But I guess I’m gonna have to propose to his [expletive] cause he ain’t proposed to me,” Wilson added with a laugh. “I think [an engagement] needs to be during a season of our life where we really have the time to, like, enjoy it.”

Wilson Gushes Over Hodges

Wilson went on to describe Hodges as being “a good dude.”

“He knows what it’s like chasing a dream because he’s done that for himself,” Wilson said. “He was in the NFL, he tried out literally for the [Pittsburgh] Steelers and made it and had a really great run with them. Went out to the LA Rams and did that.”

Wilson later gushed over Hodges while attending the 2024 CMT Awards, describing him as being a “looker.”

“He’s one of my biggest cheerleaders,” Wilson told Fox News on the red carpet. “I always say that he’s the kind of dude that will high-five you on the way in the door and high-five you on the way out.”

“Especially with the kind of job that I have,” she continued. “It’s important to have those kind[s] of people in your life. So, I’m very thankful that he’s here with me.”

Wilson’s ‘Duck’ Nickname

As for Hodges’ unique nickname “Duck,” Wilson has explained that he got that while playing college football at Samford University in Alabama.

“His college football coach was like, ‘You’re one of the best quarterbacks I’ve ever worked with. And you remind me a lot of one of my favorite quarterbacks I got to work with years ago, and we called him Duck,โ€™โ€ Wilson previously told People Magazine. โ€œAnd so he and the team just kind of started calling him Duck.โ€

We’re so glad to see that Wilson finally got her wish and is officially engaged. We’d also like to wish Wilson and Hodges many years of happiness together to come!
