Yesterday, we reported that the Oscar-winning star Nicole Kidman and her country music star husband Keith Urban had separated after 19 years of marriage. At the time, insiders were claiming that Kidman was desperately “fighting to save her marriage.” This is because the split was allegedly Urban’s idea.
Hours later, however, Kidman, 58, officially filed for divorce from Urban, 57. This came amidst rumors that Urban had already moved on with a “new girlfriend.” Now, insiders are speaking out to reveal what really led to this shocking celebrity marriage split.
Turning Point In Kidman And Urban’s Marriage
While Kidman and Urban’s divorce has come as a massive shock to the world, those close to them reportedly weren’t surprised by it at all. Indeed, it seems that Kidman and Urban had been living separate lives for quite some time.
In fact, there was a turning point this summer that led those close to Kidman and Urban to conclude that their split was inevitable. This turning point came when Urban started renting his own place in Nashville, where the couple has long resided with their two teenage daughters.
“Their lives were moving in different directions, and once he quietly set up his own place, it felt like the writing was on the wall,” a source told People Magazine.
“It really hasn’t been a secret in their circles that Keith and Nicole have been living separately for a while now,” the insider continued. “People close to Keith felt like the split was kind of inevitable.”
Kidman’s Fight ‘To Save The Marriages’
Though Urban moving out was certainly a turning point, Kidman still fought to save their marriage with everything she had.
“She didn’t want this,” the insider explained. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.”
“Nicole’s sister [Antonia] has been a rock, and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another,” the source added.
Kidman and Urban had not been seen in public together in over three months at the time of their split. They were last photographed together on June 20, when they attended the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup match between Los Angeles Football Club and Esperance de Tunis at GEODIS Park.
This came just five days before the couple’s 19th wedding anniversary. Kidman marked the occasion by sharing a photo of herself cuddling up to Urban on Instagram.
“Happy Anniversary Baby ❤️ @KeithUrban,” Kidman wrote in the caption.
Meanwhile, Urban neither responded publicly nor made an anniversary post of his own.
Kidman And Her Daughters Are ‘Inseparable’
Kidman spent much of the summer in England filming Practical Magic 2 with Sandra Bullock. On August 19, shared photos of herself making “summer memories” with her and Urban’s daughters Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14. Urban didn’t join them, as he has been on tour.
A source close to the family said in August that Kidman and her daughters “have been inseparable” all summer.
“While Keith has been away on tour all summer, Nicole and her daughters have been inseparable, spending time together bonding,” the insider stated. “Now the focus is back to school in Nashville, where Nic has been getting the girls ready for the new year.”
The former couple has already agreed to a parenting plan that gives Kidman 306 days per year with the girls. As for Urban, he will get 59 days. The former couple has also agreed to a parenting schedule, and they will be making major decisions about their daughters together.
Urban had never been married previously when he and Kidman tied the knot in 2006. Meanwhile, Kidman was married to the A-list Hollywood star Tom Cruise from 1990 until they underwent a bitter divorce in 2001.
