We previously reported that the Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman and her country music star husband Keith Urban had separated after 19 years of marriage. At the time, insiders were claiming that Kidman was desperately “fighting to save her marriage.” They also alleged that she’d felt “blindsided” by Urban wanting to separate.
Hours later, however, Kidman, 58, officially filed for divorce from Urban, 58. This came amidst rumors that Urban had already moved on with a “new girlfriend.”
Yesterday, we reported that Kidman and Urban had finally finalized their divorce on Tuesday. Now, insiders are claiming that Kidman and Urban had one last explosive fight before the finalization of their divorce. What they allegedly fought over is nothing short of telling.
Kidman And Urban’s Final Fight
Though Kidman and Urban’s divorce may have looked neat to the public, they actually spent the past few months battling behind the scenes about one thing. Indeed, the former couple reportedly fought each other hard over custody of their two daughters: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15.
“The one thing that became a sticking point was custody of Sunday and Faith,” an insider told Daily Mail. “Keith was initially asking for equal time with their daughters.”
This one request reportedly sent Kidman into a spiral.
“It was an especially stressful time for Nic,” the source continued. “After almost 20 years of marriage, she certainly knows how stubborn Keith can be. She was anxious and distressed that he wasn’t going to budge.”
Urban’s request reportedly struck a nerve with Kidman because she was afraid of history repeating itself.
“Nicole also wanted the kids more because she wasn’t given that benefit when she divorced Tom Cruise,” the insider explained.
Kidman was married to Cruise, 63, from 1990 until they divorced in 2001. At the time, they agreed to joint custody of their adopted children Isabella, now 32, and Connor, 30. However, Isabella and Connor soon decided to live primarily with their father, as all three of them are known to be scientologists. It is believed that the two of them are still estranged from Kidman to this day.
Additional Factors
When it came to custody of Sunday and Faith, logistics were also a big factor.
“Keith has a bunch of tour dates coming up, and his schedule is a little less flexible than Nicole’s,” a second insider explained. “She enjoys being a homebody when she isn’t on set. And if need be, her kids can be on set with her on a more consistent basis – that is a much better atmosphere than backstage at a concert. Nic won out.”
“It took a lot of wearing down but Keith finally agreed to her terms,” the first insider chimed back in to add. “Their daughters, are both in their teens and need their mother more than their father at these ages. Keith knew he’d never win the battle in court and finally backed down. That’s when the divorce was settled.”
Kidman And Urban’s Parenting Plan
Court documents obtained by People Magazine show that Kidman and Urban have agreed to a parenting plan. According to this plan, they must both “behave with each other and each child so as to provide a loving, stable, consistent and nurturing relationship with the child even though they are divorced.”
“They will not speak badly of each other or the members of the family of the other parent,” the agreement continues. “They will encourage each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families.”
Kidman’s Nashville home will be Sunday and Faith’s primary residence. She has them 306 days per year, while Urban has them the other 59. The girls are allowed to spend every other weekend with Urban. On those occasions, he has them from 10 a.m. on Saturday morning to 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.
“In the unlikely event that the parties do not agree on a major decision for either minor child, [Kidman] shall have final decision-making authority,” the plan states.
Divorce is never easy, particularly when there are children involved. Now that their divorce is behind them, here’s hoping that Kidman and Urban can each move on with their lives. Please join us in saying a prayer for them!
