Earlier this year, we reported that the pop star Katy Perry was facing major backlash for suing a dying 85 year-old veteran for his $15 million mansion. Now, Perry is being slammed as a “giant spoiled brat” as this legal battle continues.

Perry, 40, is preparing to face off in court against the family of the 85 year-old disabled veteran Carl Westcott. Indeed, they are about to enter the second phase of their legal war after Westcott sold Perry, via her business manager Bernie Gudvi, his $15 million mansion in 2020.

Westcott, who suffers from the neurological disorder Huntington’s disease, changed his mind days later and tried to back out of this deal. He claimed that he hadn’t been in his right mind when he made the deal, alleging that he had been under the influence of pain medication following a recent surgery.

Perry, however, refused to let Westcott out of the deal. In December of 2023, a judge ruled in Perry’s favor, declaring her to be the rightful owner of the mansion in Santa Barbara, California.

“Westcott presented no persuasive evidence that he lacked capacity to enter into a real estate contract between June 10, 2020, and June 18, 2020, the days during which he negotiated and signed the contract,” the judge said at the time.

The judge went on to say that the court had found evidence that when Westcott made the deal to sell the mansion, he was “coherent, engaged, lucid, and rational.” The deed for the home was then transferred to Perry’s LLC, DDoveB (named after Daisy Dove, the 4 year-old daughter that Perry shares with her ex Orlando Bloom), in May of 2024.

Perry Countersues Westcott

However, Perry still wasn’t done with Westcott. She proceeded to countersue him, alleging that the “dying” veteran owes her $3.25 million in damages. According to Perry, Westcott owes her this money because she was unable to rent out the mansion during their legal fight from September of 2020 to March of 2024.

Perry’s lawyers then tacked on an additional $2.29 million in repair damages. In doing this, they argued that the mansion needed to be restored to the condition it was purchased in.

The second phase of the legal war over this mansion is set to begin on August 21.

Westcott’s Son Sounds Off

On August 1, a judge ruled that Bloom won’t be forced to testify in this case. Westcott’s lawyers had wanted to depose him to ask him about the alleged repairs. They also wanted to know if Bloom ever lived in the home with Perry.

When asked if it’s unfair that Bloom won’t take the stand, Westcott’s son Chart bluntly replied, “it absolutely is.”

Chart went on to allege that Bloom “told our property manager he was ‘in charge of repairs’ and in addition to that, he is on the LLC that owns the house as a manager.”

“He should have to testify,” Chart told The New York Post of Bloom. “It isn’t, you know, about us trying to drag him into it. He’s already in it. It’s ridiculous.”

Chart then said that when he heard the ruling, “I wasn’t surprised and I understand the judge’s desire to avoid a media circus. But the reality is that everything these two people do, Katy and Orlando, is in the media and also like just because they have media attention doesn’t excuse them from the obligations that the court can put them under and it shouldn’t. That’s a two-tier celebrity privilege standard, and that’s not OK.”

Westcott Family Won’t Go Down Without A Fight

Despite how grueling this legal battle has become, Chart wants it to be known that his family isn’t going down without a fight.

“Katy could’ve walked away at any time with grace and humanity,” Chart said. “Instead, she has chosen to fight a dying man in court, all for money. OK, that’s who we’re dealing with here. He is bedridden. He has late-stage dementia and Huntington’s. His ability to speak kind of ebbs and flows. Some days are better than others.”

“He’s stable, but it’s declined. I mean, we have thought he could die any day for several years now because of how much he’s just withering away,” Chart explained. “There’s no argument to justify what’s happening here from a moral perspective like this is the exploitation of a man whose mind and body are basically shutting down, and he’s being dragged into court.”

According to Chart, his father is “literally bedridden and can barely speak. That’s been the status for over a year. He’s spending his days in a hospital bed and Katy Perry is spending her days trying to get his money.”

Chart believes that what Perry is doing to his father says everything about her character.

“Here’s what makes me so mad, though. Her public image, she tries to couch it as, you know, empathy and compassion, and all these you know bull-[expletive] words that are not who she is,” he said. “I mean, her fake compassion, her fake empathy. It’s all bull-[expletive]. You know, she’s a greedy [expletive].”

‘A Giant Spoiled Brat…’

Chart’s ideal outcome would be “for the judge to tell her she gets no damages, to pound sand, and she never should’ve done this in the first place.”

“I just can’t believe she hasn’t even apologized. She hasn’t even said, ‘Sorry, we’re putting you through this,’” he continued. “It’s disgusting. Avoiding accountability for her immoral and wrong choices is basically a hallmark of her. She’s essentially a giant spoiled brat, you know, I mean it, like to boil it down.”

“She’s never had to grow up,” Chart added. “So she doesn’t realize, I’m not giving her, I’m not excusing her, but like I don’t think she fully understands the moral consequences of her actions. Like she’s not fully developed from a moral perspective.”

Chart concluded by saying that this has never been about money.

“I don’t need the money,” he stated. Instead, he is accusing Perry of “taking from” the things that his father wanted to give his fortune to.

“Not an insubstantial portion of his money is going to charity, and instead it’s going to her,” Chart lamented. “That’s bull-[expletive].”

Perry herself has yet to comment publicly on this case. It will certainly be interesting to see how all of this turns out later this month.
