The pop star Katy Perry is being blasted as “entitled” after she filed an “unforgivable” lawsuit against a dying 85 year-old veteran who she evicted from her $15 million mansion.
Sounds strange? Let’s break down what happened.
Perry’s Legal Battle Against Dying Veteran
This all started back in 2020, when the now-85 year-old veteran Carl Westcott agreed to sell his 1930s estate in the ritzy star-studded area of Montecito, California to Perry for $11.25 million. Days later, however, Westcott desperately tried to go back on the deal, arguing that he was under the influence of painkillers when he signed it.
Perry, 40, apparently wasn’t buying it. Instead, in December of 2023, she and her former Lord of the Rings star husband Orlando Bloom, 48, came out victorious in a court battle to keep the 9,000 square foot mansion.
Once Perry was given the keys to the home last year, she launched a counterclaim against Westcott. In it, she demanded $6 million in back rent and alleged damages from the veteran, who suffers from a neurological disorder. Westcott allegedly has Huntington’s disease, which gradually stops the brain from working properly over time. It gets progressively worse, eventually proving to be fatal.
Westcott’s Son Sounds Off
Westcott’s son Chartt, who lives in Puerto Rico, is now firing back by saying that his dad is currently in hospice care. He told The Sun that his dad’s “been in a horrible condition, bedridden for well over 18 months.”
“His activity level is very low, he’s not awake very often, he’s very foggy – and still recognizes us, but the decline is just consistent, and very painful for our family to watch,” Chartt explained.
As for Perry’s lawsuit, Chartt said that “it was shocking when it happened in the first place.”
“If an old man apologizes and says he made a mistake [about the house sale], and she’s a rich pop star who can buy any other house in the world, you’d think she would let the old man go on his way,” he continued.

Chartt Doubles Down
Not stopping there, Chartt did not mince any words when it came to what Perry is doing to his dying father.
“It’s entitled celebrity behavior,” he stated. “She has no sense of fair play, no empathy, zero empathy, quite the opposite. The worse the condition my father is in, the harsher they’ve been in trial; it’s unfortunate to see the way her lawyers have conducted themselves, bottom of the barrel in terms of ethics.”
Chartt believes that Perry, who has an estimated net worth of $400 million, is only going after Westcott for damages because of her own “greed.”
While we can’t know all the details, it does seem rather strange to go after back rent from a dying man with that kind of net worth.
“She can cause damage in other people’s lives,” he lamented. “There’s no real explanation other than greed.
“This is such a small deal to be worried about – I think its a matter of privilege – her lawyers and her business manager are dealing with it,” Chartt added. “The last hearing we had, the judge has said she must testify.”

Perry And Bloom ‘Sold Their Souls’
When asked if the Westcott family has a message for Perry and Bloom, Chartt took a moment to think before answering.
“It’s a hard question, because I don’t feel like anyone is listening – they sold their souls long ago… they chose this,” he said. “It’s unforgivable how they have conducted their affairs.”
“But it’s how the Hollywood elite system works – I’ve seen this up close – they treat ordinary people like dirt, it’s been a difficult time for the family,” Chartt admitted. “Everyone knows Dad is bedridden – and he has survived longer than we ever expected, it’s a miracle he’s still alive. Dad has not talked about this damages case.”
“We are inherently very reasonable people, and we are interested in a reasonable outcome for all involved, it’s unfortunate that Katy and Orlando have been unreasonable from the start,” Chartt concluded.
Perry and her legal team declined to comment when contacted by reporters. The former American Idol judge has yet to comment on this case publicly.
In the end, we can only hope that Perry drops this case, and allows Westcott to live out his final days in peace.
