It’s been nearly three months since the pop star Katy Perry went to space. She did so for eleven minutes as part of Jeff Bezos’ all-female Blue Origin crew.
Unfortunately for Perry, this has since blown up in her face. Indeed, the mission has been met with tons of backlash. It’s even been reported that Perry’s career has been “ruined” by this controversy.
Last month, things got even worse for Perry when she split from her boyfriend of nine years Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a 4 year-old daughter named Daisy. Now, insiders are saying that Perry has been left “disappointed” and “sad” by Bloom’s behavior in the wake of their breakup.
Perry Left Heartbroken After Bloom Split
Bloom, a 48 year-old actor best known for his roles in the Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchises, was recently spotted enjoying his newly single status while spending a week partying in Italy for the billionaire Jeff Bezos’ wedding to Lauren Sanchez.
Meanwhile, Perry was thousands of miles away performing in Australia for her Lifetimes tour. Sources close to Perry, 40, say that she was “sad” to see Bloom gleefully partying hard during what she feels should be a difficult time for them both.
“It’s disappointing,” an insider told Daily Mail. “It’s hurtful and annoying. If he’s going to behave like an acting-up adolescent, that’s on him. She’s going to continue to work and take care of Daisy.”
“Katy knows that he’s free to do whatever the hell he wants to do. She hoped he’d do it a little more discreetly and thoughtfully,” the source continued. “So she’s disappointed and sad.”

Perry And Bloom Split
Perry and Bloom announced their split to the world towards the end of June.
“Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable,” a source close to the former couple told US Weekly at the time. “It’s not contentious at the moment. Katy is of course upset but is relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life.”
This insider went on to allege that the split was “a long time coming” as things between Perry and Bloom “have been tense for months.”
The source claimed that Perry is “keeping busy” with her tour, which has “distracted” her. However, just days later, Perry broke down in tears while performing her first show since the split was announced.
“Thank you for always being there for me Australia. It means the world,” a visibly teary-eyed Perry said during her June 30 show. She then gathered herself before exclaiming, “Now let’s sing ‘Firework!’”

Perry’s Blue Origin Backlash
This comes after a rough few months for Perry. It all started when she travelled to space on the Blue Origin flight on April 14. Perry was joined by CBS Mornings host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sánchez. They spent just eleven minutes in space before returning to Earth.
Unfortunately for each of them, however, the mission has been met with tons of ridicule and backlash. Indeed, all of the women have been hit with backlash over the flight. However, Perry has taken the most heat by far. According to Daily Mail, Perry’s career has been “ruined” by this controversy.
Perry Responds
As the backlash reached its peak, Perry herself took to social media to address the hate that she’s been receiving.
“When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed,” she stated. “What’s real is seeing your faces every night, singing in unison, reading your notes, feeling your warmth. I find people to lock eyes and sing with and I know we are healing each other in a small way when I get to do that.”
“I’m not perfect, and I actually have omitted that word from my vocabulary, I’m on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but… I get back up and go on and continue to play the game and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS,” Perry concluded.
It’s safe to say that 2025 has been quite a rough year for Perry so far. Here’s hoping that she can put both her breakup and her Blue Origin backlash behind her and have a better second half of 2025!
